Warm back hooves - should I be worried?

SO... My mare is barefoot on the back, has shoes on the front but tonight her back ones are warm.

She lives out 24/7 - the field is wet (where isn't) but not boggy or overly sodden. We still have grass by the gate - to give an indication.

Do I need to panic - shall I ask my farrier to come and have a look or is it normal to be warm occasionally?

We hack at weekends only, lots of roads but walking (mostly - except when she's trying to canter sideways)

She's a TB with very pretty striated hooves as she's a chestnut. I was told the other day the darker the hoof the harder the hoof... ?

I wouldn't panic unduly as it isn't unusual for their feet to be warm but if they don't cool down I would be more worried. I remember hearing that a horse heats its feet alternately.

I have found since going barefoot that the hooves are warmer than shod ones, so unless your horse is lame or has raised pulses I would not worry!

I have one barefoot and one with fronts only on.
The unshod feet are always a little warmer than the two shod ones.
I'd not worry too much unless the are other symptoms.

i am more interested in the 'We still have grass by the gate' - wow!!! tell me how you do it...we're now underwater, with more mud than field
my tb gets warm feet all round, random days and doesnt cause a problem. if it is contiues possibly bute for a few days???
liking the alternative hoof warming....wish my feet did that!!!

I have been learning the trials and tribulations of heat in hooves - I now check and if warm I check for pulses, if no pulses then I breathe a sigh of relief

Nugz feet are often alternate (cue OH phoning me in a panic) so his near fore and off hind will be warm, but others cool. Tonight 3 out of 4 warm, yesterday morning all warm after night in, cool after day out

Don't get too excited about grass by the gate - big field, 5 horses, and hills ! Africa by the water trough...

Total noodle brain - what is this pulses you all speak of ? Is this as in the without it you're dead ?

Interested in the unshod ones being warmer, I guess i'm terrified she's going to develop mud fever or her hooves will disolve. My other one (Tb x anonymous) is shod all round at the moment and cool footed.

I'm thinking of having her back ones off for the winter. Crikey wine o'clock has come and gone my typings gone all squiffy !
