Got horse in from field to ride at 6 a.m and was picking out feet. Realised that his off fore was pretty warm, slightly filled with a warm foot. All other legs were stone cold. He does have a scrape on a hind leg which is new so wonder if he's bashed himself.

Unless he's been hooning around the field I can't think what he's done because he's only on walking. We are on week 3 now and he is doing some fairly steep hills but has seemed to cope with them fine. We are on flinty ground so could he have a bruised sole? Would it travel up the leg at all? I didn't manage to trot him up as was on my own and noone to help. He didn't seem bothered by me poking and prodding at all. Filling went down as I led him back to the field but then came up again as he was standing by the gate. He has very skinny, long TB legs so filling noticeable by touch but not sight and only very slightly. I probably wouldn't have noticed if it wasn't warm and the others stone cold.

Any ideas?!!! Also in NL.

is he lame at all when you were walking him in?

could have a foot abscess as that can cause leg swelling.

OR could just be hooning round the field........

Or could be a splint.

Did you cold hose it? If not I would maybe cold hose it when you next go to see him, and hopefully have someone to trot him up so u can see if he is lame or not quite sound...

If there is heat in the foot it sounds as though he may have bruised his sole. I dont know where you are but where we are the ground is rock hard its more like August ground than April. You could ask your farrier to test his sole for you to see if it is bruised and then cold hose and maybe put an Animalintex pad on hoof to draw out bruising if it is in the foot.

The heat and swelling wil travel up the leg if it is in the foot.
