Warm & waterproof gloves - expecting too much?!

Hi all,

why is it so difficult to find gloves which will keep my hands warm & dry? I have very poor circulation & once the temperature drops to about 3 degrees, my fingers are turning blue & I can't unfasten rug straps!

Please recommend me some decent gloves that have been tried & tested in awful weather - I am prepared to splash out if it means I actually get to ride again properly! Thanks in advance.

(This is in TR as well.)
 
The Mark Todd thinsulate gloves are fab, leather and pretty waterproof, I can fish ice out of the trough and not get wet etc. They are thin and mobile enough to actually do stuff in,which you can't do inthe sealskins ime :)

I have two pairs of these and they are my Spring/Summer/Autumn gloves - unfortunately I just don't find them warm enough for Winter as my hands still freeze even when I put another pair of the top :(
Thank you for the suggestion though, I am glad you've had better luck with them than I have!
 
I use sealskinz with those rubber palmed gloves underneath (the ones that Horse Health Wessex sell, can't remember the name but I swear by them and use them all year round for yard work); keeps my hands warm, and if I'm doing something really fiddly loke putting on a bridle I take sealskinz off for a short time.

That I ride in those on the most bitter days and hands are fine. When not riding, waterproof ski gloves
 
Another vote for Sealskinz! I have two pairs now (the heavy duty winter pair & the competition glove) and dont know how I survived without them! Pricey but definitely worth every penny. Completely waterproof too! x
 
I tried sealskinz but just couldn't get on with them. I use showa gloves which I think I could prob ride in,I do have the really thin ones which aren't warm enough at the moment but I've also got some wool gardening gloves with a thick nitrile covering on the palm & fingers. They're really warm & waterproof,not sure I could ride in them though.
 
because sealskinz really don't fit me (and hence can't do anything in them!) I use insulated ariats (which are water resistant). For really cold weather I have some mountain horse waterproof ones which are cumbersome but very very warm.
 
SSG 10 below gloves - half the price if sealskinz. Love mine keep hands warm and dry. I suffer from raynolds syndrome so need to keep hands warm all the time. I've also got silk glove liners I got off eBay which I wear under my riding gloves for extra warmth and have put them under my SSGs if my raynolds has kicked in before I get a chance to put gloves on!
 
Mac wet gloves are amazing iv done 3 winters in mine, washed them and used for yard jobs and still going strong, they are like a 2nd skin
 
I'd like to second wearing silks too, it is brrrrrr here today and my hands kept warm in the ariats and silks (sister's not so much!)
 
Sorry for hi-jacking thread slightly but is it just me who bought some sealskinz and was really disappointed :confused: They definitely do not keep my hands dry, I was working in the snow on Sunday and by the end of the day the gloves were wet through. If they do not come into contact with water they do keep my hands toasty though. They are the all weather riding glove, perhaps I should invest in the winter ones although I tried them on and thought that they would be too bulky to ride in.
 
Sealsinz Winter Riding gloves. I bought some of these on saturday knowing that my competition on sunday was going to be a chilly one.

50 mile race ride in minus temps and a minus 8 wind chill and hands were toasty. Horse was pulling like a train and no issues at all with grip. I am a convert!
