CLEARLY I'M NOT A WARMBLOOD PERSON!
KWPNs - what warmblood are they?
What they like? Temperment, build, talent?

Looking for a showjumper really, suddenly going to view one tomorrow.

Dutch Warmblood.

The most successful sportshorse breed in the world.

Highly athletic, trainable, super tempramemnts generally...basically good news.

However....just because it's a Dutch Warmblood doesn't mean it's going to be a world beater

They have established themselves as the best through mass breeding and as such there is no shortage of them about. A huge number are exported each year to among other places, England.

If you are buying one over here expect it to have already been thoroughly assessed and assume it will NOT make the top.....or be prepared to pay a small fortune for it

I have a dutch gelding, he's big....gay (even has a baby pink head collar)....and orange. He can put on a good 'cute' face when he wants something, (usually the chocolate or Haribo your eating). Temperament is generally good, each horse will always be different though but I've ridden a couple of DWB's and all have been real triers

Tell me about it Rambo!
Well aware its the hand me downs from holland but still no doubt jump up to foxhunters which is fine by me at the moment. (Think its jumped 1.20m in holland)

I have 2 WB's not Dutch though, as a breed on the whole I would say they are talented, athletic but some can be sensitive, and too clever for their own good!

KWPN - Koninklijke Vereniging Warmbloed Paarden Stamboek Nederland - Royal Association of Warmblood Horses Netherlands Studbook

The words might not be in the right order but that's what it means!

Warmbloods are more sensible than TB's, slower, make v good SJ.

My horse, the one you can see in my sig is registered kwpn, dutch warmblood. He has a fantastic temperament, in the 5 years i have owned him i have never seen him with his ears back. He tries really hard in his work although does get tense and worried about it. Quite a forward going, responsive ride that tries his hardest. It is the same as with any breed, you get good and bad so you do have to take each one as an individual. They are bred to compete so not really ideal for a happy hacker maybe going out once or twice a week, they do need mental stimulation, working. Good luck tomorrow and enjoy.

KWPNs are horses that are basically born in holland. They can be any 'breed' of horse as long as the stallion is KWPN approved. The ones we have had have all been very different. Floyd looks like a pure TB, and is mainly Selle Francais, Olympic was a lot bigger and heavier and was nearly all Holsteiner. They don't have a specific type but are usually good tempered and more than capable of doing what the average GB rider wants.

Thanks guys! I'm not a warmblood person, but I ride a few and I think something like that might be better for me. I keep thinking of Tango the one I ride and just wanted see if thats what I should be aspecting. It still does amaze me how different two warmbloods can be, like DD said. So I still don't have much idea of what to aspect. cheers x

The long legged young stallion in my sig is KWPN, he has a fab laid back temperment, but is athletic and shows flashy movement and a scarily massive jump!

I have never had a bad experience with a dutch warmblood except the one that recently broke my arm

- she is one of the few KWPN horses seen with a brand, as they stopped branding a few years ago, unlike the other breeds who still brand.

it is now law that all KWPN horses in holland have to be microchipped instead.

Good luck but remember anything that is imported will be given a lot of points or money on its card and you will have to jump at that level. We love ours but we bought him as a yearling from 'horsegroupie'.He is laid back but talented

I've got one, and no complaints.

Good allround talent really, he can most certainly jump and he can move beautifully and this seems to be the case with most. I've had him since he was 3 1/2 years old, and he's been fantastically trainable, if a bit dense at times but he honestly enjoys his work and is relatively level headed but not boring!

But as Rambo said, dont necessarily expect a world beater.

I have a warmblood. Never thought I'd buy one as I like my TB types, but the moment I saw mine I fell in love. A mistake maybe as I've taken on far more than I wanted to, but he has a fab temperament and is quite trainable - he's just green. But, my God can he jump - but he was bred for that out of a Magic Darco mare and by Emilion. He can also move tremendously but I just hope he'll not be too sharp for me to dressage! KWPN is Dutch warmblood. Mine is AES registered but has Westfalian, TB, Holsteiner, Trakehner, Dutch warmblood and a little bit of pony!!!

Snoopy is KWPN, and I was DEF NOT a warmblood person, having worked with warmbloods before.
However, he is possibly the best horse i have EVER ridden, yes he a bit quirky at times but jeez hes got a loveable temp, moves to die for and jumps for fun.
I havent had so much fun with a horse in a very long time.

Haven't read all the replies so sorry if this repeats anything. My lad is a KWPN registered dutch warmblood - my first and only horse so don't exactly have a vast exeprience of them, but Ludo is great (ok I'm biased!). He's extremely laid back, the yard baby sitter for everyone whether its hacking out or cross country. Travels like a dream as with hacking alone or in company! He's bit greedy and very, very protective of his food. Although in charge of teh boys in his field, he's quite often away from the rest of them and seems to quite like being on his own. Very loving and likes attention - he gets jeleous (sp!) if I pay attention to anyone else! No idea how typical that is of warmbloods in general, quite a few people on this forum have a dislike of them (not sure why), and often referred to as 'thickbloods', but in my very limited experience of 1 I wouldn't hesitate in having another!!

PS He loves to jump, locks onto a jump and just flies over them (or he did until a year ago when he had an Op - long story, nothing to do with his ability or confidence!).
