WARNING ALL horse owners - Very GRAFFIC Photos

Oh no, poor boy

Someone at my yard has those clips fastening two small water buckets in her stable... I walked by the other day thinking they were a good idea, but thankfully my boy hasn't tried to knock his water over so I didn't bother getting any. Certainly won't now!

Just goes to show no matter how well you care for your beloved animals they can always find trouble.
So glad he's ok hope he wasn't too traumatised by the whole thing and will go back to his normal self very soon!
I bet its back to wet bedding again now then, which i sympathise with you as I have 2 that insist on throwing their water buckets all over their beds!

How terribly sad for you and your beautiful horse. The rule I always adhere to with youngsters is never leave them with something in the stable that could, in the worst case scenario, cause an injury.

Its sods law thats says,
"If it can happen it will happen".

And never use a bot knife on a younsters leg, I did and when he spooked I slashed his leg. Although it turned out to be minor it could have been very nasty if he had moved forwards instead.

Poor boy, glad he's on the mend now.
If I've had a horse that tips the bucket up I normally stand it in a snug-fitting tyre. (No handle on the bucket of course).

What a horrible injury, glad to hear that he is on the mend and hope he goes on to make a full recovery.

It is really nice of you to post this after your horrible experience to warn others too.

What a horrific injury .
We had a lucky escape years ago on a yard that i used to work on.
The horse was on a horsewalker and attached to it by a piece of chain with a spring clip on the end of it.
This was how it was manufactured btw.
We found the horse with the clip closed through his bottom lip.
Obviously the clip was quite old and rusty and horse had been playing with it.
What was more frightening was that when we tried to get the horse off in between the panicking it became obvious that there was no easy way to get him free.
We had to get one of the farm workers with a grinder to cut through the chain as there was no safety mechanism.
So we had to cut him free will waiting for the vet to arrive.
Fortunately horse ended up with a hole in his bottom lip after the clip was cut free but it was very scarey and has put me off anything other than the other sort of clips these days.
It could have been a whole lot worse and ended up like HLB's horse but we were luckily on hand and extremely lucky.
