Feels such a waste of the tickets I won but really dont feel like trudging through mud round the trade stands fighting the crowds too! Think its a curl up on the sofa and watch it on tv instead!
We were there today. Mud? O yes.......Mud,mud mud & more mud.
We watched some dressage, and the really good horses shone.... it was very deep in there.
We shopped...trade stands banning dogs from shaking over their goods...and everyone else shopped too ...to get out of the rain. It was busy for a friday.
We walked some of the XC course...and if there aren't a good few withdrawals I will be surprised. One word...squelchy.
But we did have a good day...it's always great to feel the buzz of Burghley.
So if you go...leave dogs at home....wellies,extra socks, extra shoes to drive home in & clothes that wash easily!!!
Have fun.
If i drive where can I park near by and how can I get in? I have members passes but don't want risk disk destroying my OH Audi my life would not e worth living!!!!
I've just got back and have to agree with the Doctor! Felt very sorry for the many dogs, they all looked thoroughly miserable and absolutely caked in sludge!
We stayed overnight by Melton and it started raining hard at 3, this morning - and didn't stop the whole time we were there (4.30) so if you really don't have to go or are going in a car, I too, strongly recommend staying at home. It's not so much the car parks but the tracks into them that are causing problems already; it's Glastonbury for wheels!
We heard talk from someone in the know that if the rain continues much longer, tomorrow is seriously in doubt; not so much for the course but the safety aspect of getting medical staff around the course if needed so keep your fingers crossed.
To give you some idea how miserable it was, one of the Pimms stands hadn't sold any all day!

I felt very sorry for the dogs I saw. Today is the longest I have ever been away from Popple, but am sure she would have prefered three walks and a quiet day in, than being dragged around it that all day
I also now feel absolutely awful as phoned a friend who was planning on going with bubba and pushchair and told her that I *really* think they'll be miserable and not able to walk the course at all, so she's having to pull out
Gutted for her
But it's a lot of money and effort only to be cold, miserable and unable to enjoy it
Can't believe the last few times we've been sipping pimms/shandy and sat on the grass - today was like winter!
driving in and out was absolutely fine for me (front wheel drive Astra), no probs, didn't skid at all. it's flattish in the car park and i'm going back on Sunday definitely, not worried about getting in and out. it's not deep mud, just squelchy/runny on top.
Was supposed to be going Sunday, but car is off road and we would have to go on OH motorbike, 130 miles in the rain was off putting enough for him, but we wouldn't be able to stay upright on that ground.
Oh well maybe next year.
Quick question, if it was cancelled would they re-run it perhaps if weather gets better later in month.
Don't know whether this is still the case but I overheard a conversation yesterday (was someone official) mentioning that they may postpone the x-country today, just to allow everyone time to GET IN! Make of it what you will. It's going to be muddy, I have the jeans to prove it.
