*WARNING* Attempted horse theft Templecombe Somerset

the theiving buggars were out in force last night then as somebody tried and failed to steal my horse trailer, they climbed over my locked gates dragged my box to the neighbouring field not realising that those gates are locked too then tried to take it into the next field why god only knows as you cant get out that way at all....hope they dont come back tonight! horses were a bit jumpy today but still there thank goodness!

Whilst I agree that everyone should be vigilant, what you have reported is not *attempted horse theft*

Photos of the *plaits* would be very helpful for people to see too.

No disrespect Weezy but can we not get pedantic about people posting details they've heard of about plaits or attempted thefts? And surely a plait is a plait, does it really need a photo? One thieving type may not plait in Kent the way another one does in Somerset after all?!

Some of these incidents that have been posted recently are local to me and others in other parts of the country where I have friends with horses and I for one would really like to know what's going on however irrelevant or hearsay it may seem to others. Our local officers are very keen to hear of anything even if it's not come to any definitive crime as where they can they will step up patrols and notify contacts to keep an eye out too for any suspicious behaviour. So surely awareness amongst the wider horse community can only be of benefit by such postings on HHO?

There is a picture of the plaits that are being put in manes in HORSE mag on page 8
they are quite small plaitsand hard to take out as hair is twisted and knotted.
Hope that helps

Thank you for this ^^^ and totally agree.

Fair dos, I suppose I am just rather long in the tooth and abhor scaremongering. Fact is I have not heard of ANY thefts that have happened after a horse has had a plait - does removing the plait suddenly make the horse untouchable? You see where I am going with this? Horse thefts are not up, same as the malarky with the photography thing. We should all be vigilant at all times, regardless of whether people are painting horses green or plaiting their manes. And this comes from someone who lost over £3k of tack this year to scumbag robbers, so it isn't as tho I am blase about theft! When things are reported some people are odd enough to report *non* crimes, they say they found their horse with a plait or whatnot for sympathy, then it spreads, then people find it funny to plait horses manes, etc.

If you guys are all seriously worried about waking up and your horse having a plaited mane, I suggest you hog him/her

, because going by this form of horse theft ID, hogged horses are immune
