I have been concerned to read that some owners are using furniture polish etc and Mr Sheen on their horses. Please read the letter below. Stop using these products and use safer alternatives.

Dear Ms Davison

Thank you for your email regarding Pledge, Natural Furniture Polish. This product is intended SOLELY for use on furniture only and should NOT under any circumstances be used on animals of any breed.

By doing so, the animal could incur long term health damage due to the chemicals used in the product. If you know of anyone doing this, then please advise to refrain from doing so immediately.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention and I hope this email has helped.

Yours Sincerely Martin Wilkins

Yeah, I thought as much. The polish may be tested on animals, but it still contains powerful chemicals which will be absorbed through the skin.

I can't understand anyone wanting to use FURNITURE polish on their horses. Good grief stop being so fecking tight and buy stuff that is soley made for horses. Rant over......

Aye I knew a few women who used this on their horses...and then were mentally challenged enough to complain when their horses came out in big lumps :-(
I used to hide the bottles!
Buy bl**dy coatshine, why are some people so tight???

I can't believe that people would do something so stupid. As ChezandRisk says buy some flipping coatshine or something. Or just groom properly!

Shouldnt need to put anything on the horses coat anyway if it is fed properly and kept well.

When I used to ride and work with hunters, we did used to use it on horses tails, but not on the body

though since Ive had my own I can safely say I never have

I think some people used it as a tail conditioner actually?

I can see it is risky, and personally would never use it, but some people's comments are a bit much? I guess if it's a lot cheaper, and some people are feeling the squeeze and don't want to pay so much?

Sorry, but I think your question ChezandRisk was a bit uncalled for, because looking at the current state of the economy, people might not be "tight" more unable to afford things?

But it is not actually an essential is it! If you can't afford a tail conditioner or coatshine, either find a non-harmful alternative or just don't use it at all!

i know some folk think their horses are a bit wooden, BUT i do think it taking pee...............

There is lots of stuff on market you can use safely, you normal find in feed merchants...........

lol oh good it wasn't just me that thought might be a bit bad? Somewhere I swear I read something about using WD40 as well.......is that just for coats or is it to replace cod liver supplements hehehe

QR - before you all get too het up about how dangerous furniture polish is for horses just remember that you spray it in your houses and WILL inhale the spray and get it on your hands. The product is not intended for, and so not tested for, use on animals however if it were so dangerous it would not be on the market for use in homes by people. The manufacturers have to cover their backs.

And yes I have used it on tails in the dim and distant past, another household product that used to be used and is sadly no longer available is "blue bag", a miracle whitener for tails.
