URGENT WARNING FOR DOG OWNERS: Please cross-post!

Dog thieves are operating in the Marlborough, Bourne Valley, Salisbury Plain, Tidworth, Andover and Eastleigh area.

Two white men & one woman are targeting dog walkers who have their dogs off the lead, by putting a lead on the dog and getting into a white van and driving off. Please
immediately inform Police if sighted.

Thanks for passing on info. Have to watch everywhere I think and thankfully the days are drawing out as stopped walking mine in the dark. Live in a village with no street lights and having terriers & lurchers always a worry incase travelling stock are in the area and not being the biggest of females would never be able to fight them off. Worryingly I saw a couple of terrier types on dogsblog looking for homes that were picked up as strays and they feel may have been used as 'bait' dogs due to injuries/scars they had. Some people need a taste of their own medicine!

TBH, if I were in one of these areas I'd be tempted to take Henry's collar off and give them nothing to clip a lead to. Also, my trainer says don't have your dog's name on a tag - just your surname. I must get a new one made!

It's a worry as Henry is so friendly, he'd go with anyone:eek::(

Joyrider: I think you are very sensible being aware. I let my rescue terrier off the lead on a riverbank by a light industrial estate in May, lost sight of him as he ran (only 20 yards or so) in front of me, round a small bend in the path and am sure he nipped under the fence and that was the last time I saw him. It is as if he vanished into the ether and I have no news of him since. Sadly, terriers, lurchers, other working breeds and pedigrees seem to get pinched.

Spudlet: Whilst I think your idea is a good one, I expect they would have slip leads anyway, in case the dog slips its collar whilst they haul it away.

I so hope they are caught before they move on, but the trouble is there is always somebody on the lookout to make a quick buck and they do not give a damn.
