paddock paradise book encourages you to plant a herb patch for the horses to select what they want. Nice idea but how long til they trash it. I might try planting some in a tracter tyre for safety. I think it also advises to hide mineral licks just under the surface of the ground to get the horse to dig them up and crush them as would in the wild(obv not mineral licks in the wild but mineral deposits).

This video about Cloud is a real good depiction of how horses behave in the wild to satisfy dietary and social needs.

You will see that it would be impossible to grow "perfect" forage as they have tastes to satisfy.
