Well Mister Frecks is furthering his education this week and jumping fillers, gates, planks and the almighty terrifying water tray! Any suggestions on how not to get left in the 'brace' position when your horse clearly thinks the blue shiny plastic is going to jump up and gobble his legs ;)

Also, I believe we might need to raise the poles a touch because at 2ft he clearly thinks Im having a laugh!!

This made me laugh out loud! My friends horse jumps like this 9 times out of 10 and weirdly enough he looks quite like yours!

Had to laugh at your second comment, OP. My pony tends to step over low jumps and only jumps them if he's already half into a flat out gallop (out on hacks!!). It does tend to feel as if he doesn't think it worthy of the effort!

I would put the water try behind an upright to start with as horses seem to accept this better. Once used to that gradually start pulling it forward under the poles. Should make life a little more comfortable.

lol@ the pic!!! my horse did that (and i sat exactly like that)! the first time we jumped fillers!!!!

im rubbish at jumping - shes fab.... so the combination was hillarious :D

Aw, he looks very cute! :D

Mine does similar on first sight of a water tray- photo below was last summer when she was 19years "young"!!!

And this was her reaction to a step with ditch on landing side the month previously :rolleyes:;

Anyway, better to be left a little behind than in front of the movement, so I wouldn't be too worried about where you are as long as you are not catching him badly in the teeth in the process. I'm sure he'll calm down once he realises they never do actually eat him. ;)

Aaargh poor you.

My 6 year old still does this with most fillers. I know I'm in trouble when I look down at the wing tops (seriously). Ditto the neck strap although i can't use one as mine p****** off with his head down sometimes and I'm worried he'll catch a foot.

Have to admit I ended up spending 2K on a WOW jumping saddle with deep seat. Job done!

YAY that sounds like my life... glad someone else has the same 'issues'.. and i too bought a WOW saddle, only i went the opposite way and bought a really flat seat so it didnt wallop me up the backside as we leapt!! Its amazing how you get used to sitting the big leaps tho isnt it!? Mine is 7 now and still does the same with pretty much every filler - and with you on the look down at the wings thing, we do a lot of that too and people ALWAYS think I am exaggerating but I am not :) they soon realise i am not when they see us jump!!

My horse over jumps everything under 3'6 and I've often got a couple of fingers through the neck strap. Think you're sitting nicely to such a leap!

Mine is fine with all sorts of scary jumps, but the other day we were trying to teach him flying changes with one pole on the floor on the centre line. Cue 4ft leaps with me hanging on for dear life:eek: In the end we made it a 6" cross pole and he went over it and changed legs beautifully:rolleyes:

I have a jump lesson this evening and the scary tray is still out in the school ;) I also have a photographer friend coming so I will post pics tomorrow if I am still alive!!

Oh great, so glad its not just me - don't expect mine to ever get better either. I think he over-jumps on purpose cos I took him to jumpcross and I looked down at the top of the wings there too. Mind you I get loads of offers for him!
