Before you part with ANY money to World Class Stallion double check with the stud where the semen is coming from,
I was going to use one of their stallions but someone that i know very well spoke to the stud owner who informed her that NO SEMEN will be shipped to W.C.S and that the contracts are being cancelled and have/are gone/going to another stud.
W.C.S are still offering free returns BUT got no semen.…
So please be cautious and double check !

Unfortunately this one has been brewing for months. At least 2 forum members have been trying to get hold of them since November, only to be told by others here that they are either on holiday or away stallion shopping, depending upon who tells you. From November 2008???

On the rare occasion they have been contacted, Carolyn has said a) Jo has left and she cannot access her email so please email Carolyn - but when you do you get no response even though it has been picked up or b) she has no idea why people have been having difficulty getting hold of her - yet does nothing about contacting her clients or c) when you manage to get hold of her home number from someone else she says again, no idea why no one can get hold of me, will send you covering cert in tomorrow's post only to have it not arrive and then not be able to get hold of her again.

It would be better surely, for a business owner, to just come out - even onto this forum, knowing people are asking questions, to put things right.

It does seem though that many studs have not been paid for last year's semen. Would be best for anyone thinking of using semen agents this year to make sure they have the standing with the stud and can produce the goods before parting with any money. GET a contract, even if you type it yourself and get the stud to sign it, I would be inclined to not use a particular stud if they refused this as the mare owner is then left without any recourse if there are problems between agent and stud. Don't part with any money without a receipt or go direct to stud if you can.

It is misleading to still be advertising for new clients whilst last years are still left in limbo like this.

Very well said Breezes_mum

I think unless you feel confident enough to deal with a mainland European stud yourself (and plenty of people on here can advise which ones are good to deal with directly) then I'd avoid using an agent and stick to using a good old british based stallion. At least you can shout at the owner in English then

I've never had a problem dealing with studs direct, so never needed an agent

brookhouse stud (emma hindle) has a stallion i would be interested in, but i would need to arrange collecton, i'm told
that this is not an easy task, can anyone advise.

As one of the mare owners left without a covering cert by WCS, I totally agree with Breeze Mum. I am appalled that they are still trying to do business when the studs have not received last years covering fees from them and as a result lots of breeders are without covering certs.
I hope this is going to be in H&H this week.

Well, from the Brookhouse Stud website:

Order of Fresh (Chilled) Semen

Delivery requests must be made by 9.00 a.m. at the latest at least 48 hours in advance.
Normally, only one portion of fresh sperm is sent per insemination and maximum 3 times when the mare is in season.

Deliveries cannot be made on a Monday. Saturday deliveries are less reliable and usually more expensive. You should make arrangements with your own courier to collect your order. We can arrange for a list of specialist couriers to be supplied to you.

Orders for fresh semen may be made by using the order form. Orders must be made at least two clear working days prior to requirement. With each order you must provide us with a completed form (uncompleted form cannot be processed).

Brookhouse Stud Limited cannot accept any responsibility for late delivery. Delivery costs are the responsibility of the mare owner.

Semen collection by you rather than a courier is available by prior appointment. Brookhouse Stud Limited will not be liable for semen that is lost in transit by couriers.

Phone: 0049 (0) 60 62 – 95 60 56
Fax: 0049 (0) 60 62 – 95 60 57

Hopefully that's a useful starting point!

Eeek - that's asking!! I've had much better service than that from Meadow Stud (rang the evening before, they collected first thing in am and owner picked up semen at 9 am.) And another stud I use, I ring when the vet has been (10.30am-11.30am) and get semen next day!!

A LOT can change in 48 hours!!

Yes... I know... bit scary isn't it? I regularly get calls from mare owners between 11pm-3pm on the day they want the semen dispatched, and always manage to fit it in!

Although, they do have a host of additional paperwork requirements sending the semen in from Germany...

I like to know if mare is cooking her egg!! but if mare catches you out I'll always collect at late notice [as long as stallion here!] but might need chocolates as bribery!!

you need to ask Penniless for some spares SSJEZ..first thing I thought when I was reading their terms was, vet out that early to check for follicle? and I know my mare didn't give any evidence of a good follicle that far in advance - seems very tight to me. Even from Germany they only needed 24 hours notice.

I had a stallion being marketed by them. They without notice stopped advertising him and now i have not been able to get hold of them to organise my semen from my stallion which i have paid for!!
i would not touch them with a barge pole. Very unreliable and now i have lost all my valuable semen that was all approved for distribution to uk and europe.

It doesn't look good, according to Elite Stallions website, Gestuet Vorwerk (home of Royal Diamond et al) and De Wiemselbach (home of Numero Uno, Lupicor etc) have now got exclusive agreements with Elite Stallions so are no longer dealing with World Class.

There's also a note saying "Gudula Vorwerk has also asked clients from 2008 who do not have a covering certificate yet, to contact Elite with details of the covering so that one can be supplied."

I also had confirmation from Lisa at Elite earlier that all her studs have been paid for last year's semen and all paperwork is in place. If you need references from the studs Lisa represents she is more than happy to give you contacts to call for them.

With reference to my business, Elite Stallions, I can state that all the studs I work with were paid in full in September and October last year, and as such I have no outstanding debts, I can provide references from any of the studs I work with to support this. My company is in good financial shape and I am very much looking forward to working with some new studs, and with new and existing clients in 2009. I have worked hard to gain a good reputation within the industry both with the studs I work with and with my clients, so hopefully this will stand me in good stead. I am now working with Gestuet Vorwerk and De Wiemselbach, on an exclusive basis. With regards to the former, any of their clients without covering certificates for the 2008 season should contact me, as Gudula Vorwerk has kindly agreed to supply covering certificates to those clients via Elite Stallions.
For those wondering why on earth to use an agent, quite simply, we take a lot of pain out of it! We know all the stallions we work with and can best advise on the most suitable stallion for an individuals requirements. We are no more expensive than going direct to the studs, and in many instances we are cheaper as we charge less for couriers etc and it is always cheaper for frozen semen when we have stock already in the UK. But one of the biggest reasons is that we know what the stallions will produce and how good the semen is, what is commercial etc. And of course we spend our days chasing couriers so you wont have to!!
I do realise there has been a lot of bad press involving agents, but we are not all bad!! Do get in touch if you need more help/information, Good luck for 2009!

to get some fact, I called Daan Horn this afternoon, and asked him who was his agent. he told me that he did NOT have an exclusive contract, or any contract with elite stallions and that world class stallions were still his agents. he also said that lisa niemy (is she the owner of elite?) was spreading rumours about world class being in debt. that doesn't look very professional to me.

i've used world class for years and they have always been very professional with me. perhaps there will be one or two clients who haven't got what they wanted, that's normal in any business that serves alot of people (not that that makes it acceptable), but i don't think it's a reason to try and destroy someones business and livelyhood.

several friends of mine who breed dressage told me last year they found it impossible to get hold of elite stallions as the woman was always on holiday, and that the number of straws wasn't that normal dose size. one said that she ended up with the whole transport bill when the tank had been shared with others.

i spoke to carolyn at world class this afternoon and she told me that there was no problem with covering cards, if you haven't received yours you should contact her, in the last two weeks i've called four times and got her every time.

all of the agents i deal with in the uk are very good, even he that should not be mentioned, and they generally sort out any problem that i simply would not be able to deal with.

FACT Elite have been nothing but professinal, helpful, polite, easy to get hold of (even when on holiday!) responds quickly to my many emails
grin.gif
always easy to get on the phone, interested in your horses, gives good advise on stallions. One of the couriers messed up an order last year and Lisa worked her butt of getting semen to me on the next flight and the mare was inseminated as planned on that day!

As for them spreading rumours what a load of rubbish, i actually asked the other week if they knew what was going on and the reponse i got was they had no idea, i feel i know them well enough to be "told" some gossip if there was any!!

WCS have brought this on themselves: Fact: people cannot get hold of them either by phone or email (myself included) people are waiting for cover notes. I know several people in this postition, not a rumour: Fact!

agree with springfalls completely. Several clients of WCS have asked repeatedly what is going on with them, the same question has been asked at numerous meetings with studs etc over the past 2 months. They have been practically uncontactable since November 08. In the VERY rare instances where someone has got hold of them (on one occasion this involved the client getting hold of their home number by someone who used them quite a while ago) the phone was answered then, not since - they have said there is no problem, certificate on way etc, and it has not arrived!! As they have been made aware on at least two occasions that I know of that their clients are having problems getting hold of them, would you not consider it professional courtesy to do a call round - particularly of those who have not received certificates.

Sorry but your tone smacks of someone else we know, or someone who thinks the sun shines out of... - there IS a problem with WCS whether you or they choose to admit it or not and unless it is cleared up why should people be handing over their money this year?

As for slamming Elite Stallions, you have absolutely no right to do so. I have also spoken to Lisa previously on two occasions and she has steadfastly REFUSED to say anything about either Ken Rehill (who we all heard about last week in H&H itself) or WCS.

Elite Stallions have every right to come and ensure their clients know that their business is fine and reassure them that not all semen agents run their businesses like those two.

If she's so darn good, why have you had to ring her four times in a fortnight?

Why do people hide behind using a new user name when they say something that they know will be provocative? I don't believe that anyone with the breeding background you purport to have has only posted twice. If you have something to say use your existing name - unless of course you have been banned from doing so
smirk.gif

odd too that the only 2 posts you have chosen to make are this one (semen agent based) and the Z one (semen agent based) - so many other breeding based threads to add too...

I wonder, little_breeder, who you are? Seemingly not so "little" a breeder if you know Daan Horn well enough to ring up and ask questions about who does/does not have the exclusive agency in the UK, and you have used WCS for years. Would you like to share with us more about what you have bred so far, where your breeding operation is based, and which stallions you have used on your mares? I think that it would be very reassuring for those people on the forum who have become justifiably suspicious of new joiners coming into the Breeding forum masquerading as "newbies" but then claiming to have lots of inside information. Unfortunately they have so often turned out to be a certain individual who has been repeatedly banned from this forum, but just doesn't seem able to keep away .....
So it would be great if you could tell us more about your own breeding operation, which, as you say, has been going on for years .... and then we can greet you as a genuine poster!

There are two very simple ways for WCS to resolve this issue - answer the phone, and issue the covering certificates the clients have paid for!

Little breeder, if there weren't these problems, this matter would not have been raised. Bad mouthing another agent (who as far as I can tell has nothing but satisfied clients) is not going to remove the issues surrounding WCS, which have been rumbling along for a considerable time now.
