With all the recent torrential rain please be careful when turning out or bringing in from fields - a boy is recovering from a fractured skull after slipping and being kicked - please consider wearing a riding hat.

We don’t want any similar accidents or fatalities. It also happened at our yard to-day – luckily the person escaped without any injury.

Please - let's not have all the usual disscussions about wearing riding hats - those discussions have been had numerous times before on this forum.

There is an increased risk (yes I know it it happens every year) but it's the first time I've heard of someone being seriously injured.

Take care!

Our place is a seriuos bog pit at the moment and just recently the risks have dawned on me and i have started wearing both my hat and gloves to the field when i would never really bother, it's not because i don't trust my horses but exactly as you say, if i slipped when i have both my horses in my hands, well i wouldn't like to think what would happen.

It's not a bad idea really - I bring my two in together in the dark and it's pretty slippy at teh moment. I'll wear my hat tonight - thanks

With the cold temperatures up here as well I woman I know said a horse being moved accross the yard she's at yesterday slipped on the ice and shattered his leg - having to be destroyed immediately. So while nice clean horses are lovely just think about what would happen should the water you've just used freeze and cause an accident such as this.
