I have pulled two vehicles out of hedges/ditches during this cold spell as I have a Fourtrak and towrope. However, when I told a friend of my exploits he said that our neighbour towed someone out with his tractor and a few days later got a letter from the towee's insurance company saying he had damaged the car with his tractor! My friend knew of a second incidence of this happening too!! It won't stop me, but I will definitely give a disclaimer first next time!

Yikes!

The world has become a sad place

Such a ridiculous world we live in now....what a sad state of affairs, no wonder people just walk on by and don't get involved.

it wont be so much of the person who owns the car but more of a fault of the insurance company there trying to get out of paying next best step pin it on the person that helped

Gosh that's a good point! I think my vehicle is with the NFU., so I would hope they would be OK about towing things; after all that's what 4x4s do!

That is why good will disappears........everyone is too worried they will be sued.

Actually on a 2nd note I bet if you damage yours while towing them out, no bugger will want to pay...........

Same thing happend to a friend of mine when he used his tractor to tow a horsebox that was stuck in mud - despite the horsebox driver having been told not to drive into that particular part of the field ...

Send the car owner a bill for the towing out service

I would also ask them to prove YOU did the damage and that it was not actually caused by going into the ditch in the first place.
