WARNING- VERY UPSETTING

watched a few other videos about it and watching those poor poor creatures trying to canter in the show classes just breaks your heart. :(

Words absolutely fail me.

What is it about the human race that makes people the world over want to abuse animals (and even other people) in every horrific way imaginable? And what kills me even more is that all animals ever want to be is your friend.

Sometimes I wish I lived on an island and could pretend that such dregs of humanity didn't really exist. I just don't understand how people can be so cruel, how the people on that video (and countless others no doubt) can sleep at night after looking into the eyes of those horses and continue to do what they are doing to them.

My horse is going to get the biggest hug ever tomorrow, that video didn't half make me cry. Poor souls.

This criminal practice has been fought inside and outside for many decades but it persists. Hopefully 21C can see an end to it.

Here's an antidote. The stark comparison enhances the utter grotesqueness of this systematic abuse. http://www.walkinonranch.com/celebrationrides.html

wow ive just watched this video, I wonder if they have managed to change any attitudes. Does anyone know why the 'traditional' riders had to keep stopping while the girl on the dun just got on with it?

Sadly I don't think so among the hard core Big Lick.

I think the padded horses have to keep stopping because they physically can't carry on. :(
Ironic really as the TWH is famed for it's stamina.

ps. Flat shod and padded/stacked classes are separate.

About time someone stepped in and banned the showing, it's disgusted to treat animals this way for a crappy ribbon. And let me tell you that just as many sinister practices go on in the English showing world too.:mad:

I came across a page calling it Big lick Tennessee Walking Horses - The greatest freak show on earth, they wrote both about the big lick, hooves etc.

I had no idea that there was bits with so long shanks! That there is actually places where you can buy a bit with 12 or 12 1/2 long shanks! Not to mention the other options they've listed, you can choose to combine it with double twisted wire mouthpiece, or nylon rope mouthpiece or why not choose the bit with longer purchase that is curved to enhance leverage... :(

And this, to me it looks like it is more nails than wood in these things to make them weight more(/some nails, as I understand it, might also be there to cause pain, poor horse), and they seem to have nailed parts of the construction to the hoof almost like you would a normal shoe, but still they also seem to need that other thing attached to the construction and going up over the hoof, how in the world did someone come up with the idea to do that to a healthy hoof?

But after reading the following I'm not sure that the flat shod/shoed classes is any better?
(Quote from the site, link below) Even "Lite Shod" horses wear shoes that weigh several pounds, and cover the entire sole. The shoes are not seated out to relieve sole pressure - in fact sole pressure is DESIRED. It causes pain, inflammation and bruising which further exagerates the horse's gait. Golf ball halves, nails, metal, and glass have all been found between the shoe and the sole in an attempt to increase pain.(/quote)

I've seen that video because and it is vile, cruelty beyond words. I would like to get my hands on the big bloke with the stick and I'd push it where the sun don't shine.

Why do people want to watch this sort of showing when they know what the poor horses have to go through :(

Terrible to watch, but we all know these things go on. I agree well done humane society!

Call me sheltered but I didn't know this sort of thing went on, I could barely watch that video, it was just heartbreaking.

Then having seen the other link posted, doesn't it speak volumes that the horse with a "natural gait" - which I thought was stunning - was nearly banned from competing? And why are they allowed "padding" and "enhancements" - doesn't that imply the organisers are almost condoning the methods used in the first video?

Someone needs to start a barefoot Tennessee club! I can imagine the people who enjoy watching them horses struggling to move would also enjoy bull fighting and god knows what else.

I've just had a look at the linked blog :eek::eek:

How is this sort of thing possibly allowed?? Even without the hideously cruel training methods, they all have those inches-thick shoes, made in complete opposition to the horse's natural foot shape - and that canter... so sad, they should just be allowed to show how beautiful they are naturally.

This, what kind of perverted mind thinks these things up, there are worse things than being dead. I would love to know the life expectancy of those horses
