I went to my yard late today to let my horses out and found 4 youths in the field. As soon as they saw me they jumped out over the hedge and hide in the field next door. I was on my own with my daughter but didn't want to leave the field whilst they were in the next field.

I called the yard owner who's son and friend came down and the boys ran off across the field but we could still see them over the other side.

The horse in the field was very stressed and to my horror my daughter found a golf club in the middle of the field. I checked the horse was ok and phoned the police. Yard owner then went to the other field in his car and found all 4 boys still hanging around. They all ran when they saw him straight through a hedge with barbed wire. YO said one of them was covered in blood on his face from going through the barbedwire.

The police couldn't find them, and we decided to bring all the horses in incase they decided to come back.

I'm a bit stressed now as the horse attacked with a blunt instrument (on the news page) is only about 2miles from my yard.

I'm praying that they were just kids mucking around, but it's a real worry.

It hasn't taken long has it. Everytime the school holidays arrive. I don't blame you bringing them in hope stables are close to YO house (well that would be my thoughts) sorry didn't mean to make you worry anymore. Lets hope they were just kids mucking around. Although what the hell was a golf club doing there?

Goodness me I dont think I would be able to sleep tonight if that happened near our horses, you must be very worried.
I will keep my fingers crossed for you that nothing happpens to them.

Have you looked for golf balls? Could be they were having some golf pracise rather than intentionally hurting the horses. Still, not nice for you

Makes me sick....bloody kids of today want stringing up,this country is getting sicker by the day, they seemed to have stopped murdering and torturing each other and moved on to defenseless creatures that are easy targets!
Thats the government for you,we cant smack em,we cant shout at em as they will lock US up,or better still fine us so it goes into their coffers???Yet it ok for these yobs to go round stabbing, and beating animals and get a slapped wrist....must be your upbringing????????????????tell us something we dont know eh

Hope it was just as Weezy says kids mucking around playing golf, rather than intent on hurting the horses. thinking of you x

If it was kids practicing golf? would they really climb from one field over barbed wire to practice golf in a field with horses in? I don't think so and would be keeping a serious eye out now the school hols are on us. Last time my horse was on a livery yard and school hols arrived the sods set fire to the hay barn which my horse was next to. Frightening as before I bought him he'd been in a stable fire and badly burnt on his back. Firemen were quite worried about him as he kept going to the fence to have a nosey and they were worried about smoke inhalation.

Occassionally when I have seen dodgy people I have used my mobile phone like a camera. At the time it wasnt a camera phone but they didnt know that. Hold it in front as if you are taking a picture unless it really is a camera phone when you can just the thought you might have a photo should deter a little.

It's very worrying isn't it. We had a teenager using a shotgun in our field at midday last summer. The guy from the next field got rid of him. Last time I found teenagers 'playing' with our horses in the field, I happened to be in my car - they nearly got pinned to the hedge!! We never saw them again
