My steel grey RID yearling suddenly sprouted four warts on his muzzle. They grew fast but have not got any bigger for a week or two. I noticed yesterday he is sprouting another crop. I am applying a thuja cream formulated for equine warts twice a day. The vet has examined them whilst here for another reason and said they were nothing to worry about and something could be done if I wanted. Does anyone have any experience or advice please?

You shouldn't treat them you could cause scarring.

They are juvenile papilloma and they will disappear of their own accord. They are very common.

Thuja is not some benign natural treatmeant it contains an extremely corrosive chemical. If you are using Newmarket cream that is also mixed with a poisonous metal compound.

Leave them be!

My new lad got them when he first came home, a bit terrifying as he was 5 so a bit older than most who get them, but his went within weeks. They should clear up well on their own, as just looked at him one day and he didn’t have warts anymore :)
