Warwickshire hunt follower dies in gyrocopter accident

How awful. I hope it truly was an accident but if it wasn't then the men/women in question should be brought to justice! Sympathy goes to his family/friends

Tragic - It Will be interesting to see how much press coverage this gets - A lot less than if a horse had kicked and killed a "monitor" I bet.

I did read that the CAA and police had been informed about this helicopter (Or one like it) low flying over the hunts and livestock for the last 3 weeks, by law they can not fly it below 5oo feet however no action was taken so I hope something is done now. Deepest sympathies to his family and friends
 
A very sad day for hunting and in particular the Warwickshire Hunt. Trevor was a kind, honest man who did his best for the hunt at all times. He always had time for a chat and will be very sadly missed.
 
What an awful way to die. This was an accident waiting to happen - a recipe for disaster - a low flying helicopter following people and horses around the countryside. Its a blessing there was'nt some mass disaster. What on earth were the police and authorities thinking by not preventing this happening in the first place?
 
It's too early to judge but these so called animal lovers must have been un nerving the horses flying this thing overhead in desperation of trying to film something and because of this a family man has lost his life, surely this was an "accident" waiting to happen, I wonder how the anti web sites will announce it, if at all.
 
For deliberately flying low and harassing horses they should loose their pilot's licence. The hunt should have complained weeks ago to the CAA as unlike the police, the CAA take these things rather seriously.
 
I seem to recall a few Years ago a hunt sab' was killed whilst trying to uncouple a horse trailer from a Landrover, whilst it was trying to set off.

Not a lot of concern about what would happen to the horse had he achieved his aim.

Fortunately he couldn't manage to uncouple the trailer and it ran over him and killed him, what a shame (not).

The trailer incident happened locally. I'm pretty sure it was actually a hound trailer, so risking many animals not just one. The hunt involved were constantly harrassed by antis for ages afterwards (may well still be), I have a feeling hunt staff were attacked and possibly an arson attack at the kennels but I could be wrong on that.
 
It was the Cheshire Beagles - from memory I think it was the '92-'93 season. A sab named Mike Hill fell off the back of the hunt pick-up which was towing the hound trailer. Reports of what he was doing at the time vary but at one stage he had allegedly taken the cap off the fuel tank and was brandishing a lighter near it. The huntsman was heading for the police station - understandably he didn't want to stop and risk a physical confrontation.

The huntsman's house was attacked that night and later burnt down. The police investigated thoroughly and decided it was an accident. The sabs brought a private prosecution against the huntsman - that failed. The huntsman had to leave hunt service as he and his family were constantly targetted and harrassed.

Didnt he die after choosing to follow the gyrocopter for a reported 12 miles to 'confront', the pilot?! Had he have left any action to the correct authorities instead of attempting to take the law into his own hands this would not have happened IMO

An 'accident waiting to happen'?? lol Only for people who aim to 'confront', pilots.............on runways?! This would never have happened had Trevor not hunted and chased an aircraft for many miles, would it?

I am sorry, saying this only adds fuel to the fire, in both cases a life has been lost and in both cases the family and person should be shown a level of respect.

I depend on hunting for work and have to say I am 100% pro.
 
What a terrible shame.

I have t say I have never really understood some of these Sabs. The ones that harm and kill hounds, all to save a fox that will kill other wildlife and livestock. Hardly an animal lover are they.

Maybe they should think about the poor wee lambs that get stalked in teh night and then attacked and ripped to shreds by the foxes, at least a fox can kinda defend its self to a hound - bit of a fairer fight. Last time I checked things like rabbits (horrible beasties) and lambs/sheep didn't have big sharp teeth and claws, or a taste for meat.

And no I am not a veggie or a tree hugger. lol. I just dont like rabbits.........but lamb tastes good

Just wanted to say that altho Scratchline quotes this in replying to my post I did not make that comment. I totally agree that these sort of comments are unnecessary, as you say we are talking about the loss of a life here. I think Scratchline in particular is being deliberately provocative.
 
i think we got to be carefull what we insinuate, as this horibal acident happend on a airfeild away from the hunt.

As for thinking that I 'in particular', am being provocative? In making that statement perhaps you are then choosing to ignore the actual post I quoted from and indeed my reason for posting on this forum in the first place?
Loss of life regardless of whichever side of the hunting issue we find oursleves on surely matters to all of us and I feel no guilt for being offended by the rather childish yet cruel and uncalled for comment from the poster named above.

It is a terrible thing that has obviously happened and will no doubt be thoroughly investigated. What is clear is that those who take the law into their own hands often pay a heavy price. If Trevor hadnt have followed with 'whatever', in mind he would still be alive. Blindly blaming 'anti's', for that is nonsense.

If there is proof that the pilot was illegally low flying in the weeks leading up to the accident then the CAA will surely prosecute and he may well lose his licence.

The unfortunate death on Monday is rather more puzzling. Airfields and aircraft can be very dangerous to those who are unfamiliar with the risks. If Mr Morse entered the manoeuvring area of an active airfield and approached a running aircraft then regardless of his motivation, he put himself in harms way. Under those circumstances there may be nothing that a pilot could do to prevent a fatality - many people have been killed by propellers and rotor blades in the past. I find it highly improbable that the pilot would deliberately run down a pedestrian due to the almost certainty of a fatality, the probability of serious damage to the aircraft, the possibility of injury to the crew and the guarantee of detection by the authorities.

I am sure that the police and Air Accident investigation Branch will investigate this thoroughly. The AAIB are famous for their expertise and impartiality. If indeed the event was filmed then that will answer many questions. My own speculation based on facts currently released would be that the death was a very unfortunate accident rather than a crime, even if the pilot was previously guilty of illegal low flying. There may of course be more to this story than we know yet.
 
Ok I accept that horseguys comment was in bad taste and did wince when I read it, just felt that you had come on here just to wind people up, and your comment about Trevor not stopping the gyrocopter was more distasteful as this incident had happened so recently. My apologies if I misjudged you, and I do agree that until the facts come out and we know exactly what happened we cannot totally apportion blame.
 
I did read that the aircraft was taxiing on the runway.....if this is so then why was the person involved on the runway.....was he dressed in hi-viz & did he have permission to be on the runway with moving aircraft?
