My boy seems to take more than a passing interest in the mares and fillies at our yard. Each times he is within 20 metres of one he gets quite excited, sniffs the air, his eyes go a bit glazed and he acts all silly.
The YO's old stallion is boxed two away from him and is usually very quiet but he goes nuts whenever my boy is around and tends to get quite aggressive, which he doesn't do with the other geldings.
I was wondering if my boy might have been gelded late? His Mr Winky tends to make an appearance at the most inappropriate times, more so when there are mares around. Not sure if this means he was gelded late. If so how long does it take for his hormones to die down? I was told it can take up to two years so I'm wondering if this is what is causing his odd behaviour.

As far as I know, testosterone leaves the body pretty quickly, so chances are this is how he behaved before gelding and, if he'd gone through puberty before being gelded, the behaviours have remained. Some behaviours can go from being 'instinctual' to being 'learned' and so even when the hormones that initiate those behaviours have long gone the behaviours remain. He may well settle in time though.

I'm no stallion expert so more than happy to be corrected on any of the above :)

Try a suppliment like rig calm.
This should help the hormones.

Being cut late he will be a bit more stallion like.
Could he be a rig?
Could they have left a bit inside?
I think a blood test can be done to check hormone levels

My boy was gelded at 3 and remained dangerously stallion like for 6 months, he's a lot better now at 5 and very rarely acts stallion like
