wipeout

This morning my friend and I were out on the POR (orienteering) section of a trec competition. We were on a public bridleway on the south downs when we caught up with some walkers.
The path was very wide so we started to walk past them when the woman pointed her camera at us. I would estimate we were about 4 metres away from her, she didn't speak - just started to take photos.
Now this is the bit where my friend and I disagree! I think the woman was bleddy rude!
We were within speaking distance and I think you should ask permission before sticking a camera in someones face.
I quite calmly said "please don't just take my photo without asking". The woman still didn't speak to us but said something to her husband.
My friend was shocked that I reacted this way.
What would you do in this situation?
