Was your second horse like the first?

Horses with the same bloodlines can exhibit similar behaviours/traits, especially when ridden and handled. Modern WB’s especially. Apart from that they are all different.

I’ve had four chestnut TB mares. All completely different breeding, shade of chestnut and temperament!
 
As you can probably guess 🙈 🤣 I love my Foresters, always geldings but they have all varied in temperament and personalities. Of course my first question was always "will this pony jump/hunt/WH/XC" but now it is "will this pony make me a safe pleasure drive?"
 
My first pony was a bay new forest gelding, my Hairy Champion. He was bold, cheeky, a bit of a show-off, had a very good sense of self preservation which saved me a few times from traffic and he was surprisingly talented. He was bred as a leisure pony but ended up being a pretty good eventer and show jumper. I sold him a long time ago.

My second, while also a bay pony, is a mare, my Little Madam. Polite and reserved on the ground, full of fire when pointed at a jump, bold and intelligent. She arguably had more natural talent than my Hairy Champion, but life got in the way of higher competitive gaols. Also a great mother.

My third, another bay mare, my Old Lady, is a French trotter, so very different in abilities from the first two, I'm not sure she has ever left the ground. However, I got her for a very different purpose to the first two, which was to be a companion. She's easy going and non-confrontational with others, which makes her perfect. As an ex-broodmare, she is also the perfect nanny for numbers 4 and 5.

Number 4, Pippin, turned out to be a bay colt (soon to be a gelding). He's another cheeky chap, very curious. I think (hope!) he might be a blend of my Hairy Champion and Little Madam temperament wise.

Number 5, Sassy, broke my streak of bays as she is a buckskin. She should be a similar size to Little Madam when grown. I think she will make an excellent all rounder. She's not as fiery as Little Madam and Pippin, but takes many things in her stride, though still a little shy now and again, bossy with horses if she thinks she can away with it.
