Any tips? My boys mane is SO thick that it doesn't seem to wash properly. I can scrub and scrub it and it doesn't seem to get to the root and get all the dirt out.

I've been trying with diluted hibi but no luck. Any suggestions ?

I feel your pain! I have a mainly white coloured with a thick white (or rather khaki) mane. When she needs to be clean I wash her mane and it looks clean, but then it drips dirty green trails all down her clean white neck:blue:

I try to treat the first bath as an interim stage and accept that it will need another go in a week, or whenever the next sunny day is...... And lots of rinsing with the hose.

Good horsey shampoo. Loads of water, rinsing really important. Try to do regulary. Followed by good conditioner. Its the rinsing out of suds that helps.

I use fairy liquid on mane n tail and use tomato ketchup as a conditioner..i av a grey and is magnet to sh**stains...soooo glad i dont show him

wash well in baby shampoo a layer at a time right to the roots. Rinse well although its not as important at this stage then use a quality shampoo to wash each layer roots to tips condition with a cheap human cnditioner brush through rinse well and then use a quality conditioner leave for twenty minutes and rinse well. My pony is veryn pale cream and I use John Frieda shampoo and conditioner for blonde hair for her Hot water helps

Rub oil into the crest and roots to loosen the dirt then shampoo with head and shoulders (or similar) dandruff shampoo

I love show sheen 2 in 1 shampoo it leaves the mane and tail in fabulous clean condition. You could try hot ragging in between washes. Use a flannel and hot water, squeeze out water and pull through sections of the mane from the roots, dragging the grease and dirt with each stroke. You always need warm water to dissolve grease as cold water just makes grease even more gloopy. A shower King portable horse shower would be great for a very thick mane

Waw so clean! Can't imagine how long was spent to him/her looking so pretty !

Thank you for all your suggestions, I will scrub my little heart out if this mane will end up clean and not resemble a rats tail 😊.

Away to look up shower King portable horse shower...

She is the love of my life and the dirtiest minger, grinds dirt into herself and usually is bright orange from our sandy soil. The baby bath/shampoo is 50p a bottle from tescos but if you mix it with hand hot water and soak it in well with a sponge it acts like a wetting agent. it is hard to get any dertergent to work if the coat grease repels the water. layer by layer you rub it in to get the whole lot wet then you can use shampoo to clean the hair
