So my boys on loan and i have some stuff sitting here I'm going to sell on eBay, his Rambo stable rug is disgusting so i want to wash it being all most Christmas and having all my spare cash going on Xmas presents/decorations/food I'm going to wash my rug at home (when OH is out or ill get telling off) so his medium stable rug i was going to put in washing machine , its really messy so how many washes can i do on it? what can i use? i use the liquid tabs and i take it i don't use fabric conditioner?? also can i wash his amigo headcollar? in pillow case of course.

next question once its all washed I'm placing his 6'9 amigo MW stable rug, matching amigo head collar in large and red stable bandages and some red brushes (red lot) on eBay what should i put the starting price up as???
 
Whoah! Stop! Unless you have an industrial size washing machine, don't put that size rug anywhere near it. I have washed fly rugs, cotton sheets etc, but when I did put a light weight quilt under rug in, the machine busted. Its the weight of the rugs when they are wet. You may well find yourself spending an awful lot more than if you send it to be cleaned!? You could always try to sneak it into a machine at a launderette?

It does not cost much to get rugs washed professionally and they do such a fantastic job, I would not risk breaking my washing machine. As Cougar says, I only wash things likes cotton sheets etc. Years ago I busted my parents washing machine trying to wash a rug. In those days no-one did it professionally.
 
Make sure you use non bio liquid - although I'd personally take it to a professional wash if they are stinking.

Won't he need these rugs at some point though??

I recommend you take your rugs to be washed properly.
You'll ruin the turnout by doing it at home, and how will you get it into a normal washing machine?? It would not be fair to sell it as a turnout if it wasn't washed and re-proofed properly.

By stuffing the stable into the machine it wont get clean because it will be so tightly stuffed in. I've tried to wash light/middle weight stable rugs at home and I have one of the biggest household washing machine drums they do and it doesn't work very well.

I can wash cotton sheets and fleeces, but nothing heavier than that.
 
I can get the 5'6 stable rugs in our machine. I soak them in the bath for a few hours first to get the worst of the crap off them before they go in the machine. My machine has a 7 kg load, but I wouldn't wash anything over 5'6 rug size like turnout/stable rug in there. Fleeces/sheets are a different matter of course because they are not so bulky.
 
Send it to be done properly. Do you really want all the hairs and smelly stinky debris left in your washer when you may then want to wash your smalls? Cheaper and more hygenic to send for cleaning to the cleaning people.
