My OH is refusing to let me wash any numnahs in OUR washing machine!

I need some advice as to how to overcome this, do I do it anyway when OH is out, take it to the launderette (never been in one) buy my own private horse washing machine, or something else........

I do as much of my horse stuff as I can in my washing machine but try to minimise any problems by doing the following.

Anything remotely hairy gets throughly brushed off with either a broom or dandy brush, then hoovered and then put in the machine ( Mainly numnahs )

I only wash my lightweight nylon lined horse rugs as the hair doesn;t stick to the inside and comes off with a good shake.

Brushing boots and or headcollars don't usually cause a problem but excess hairs are brushed off.

I always do a short hot wash with nothing in the machine after a horse items wash just to be sure the machine is clean.

Obviously really hairy fleeces or anything of a similar nature goes to the professional rug cleaners. Don't tell your OH you are washing horse stuff, if he's anything like mine, he has no interest in what goes in the washing machine as long as what xomes out is clean, hairless and ironed before being put back in his drawer!!

Get as much hair off as poss, either brushing or put in the tumble dryer for a while, wash while OH is out (I save up loads of horse wash and do a mega session), clean as best you can, then use the next wash to do towels or sheets that are easier to rid of any stray hairs!

oh dear! - am I the only one that being BANNED from putting horsey stuff in the washing machine would feel the urge to put a very hairy numnah in with all of OH clothes lol

but seriously I usually brush all hair off and wash them when OH is not around - makes life so much easier

I do mine when OH is out! First remove as much of the hair/dirt with a dandy brush before washing. I also do another empty wash after horse items, and wipe around the washing machine door, and generally remove any evidence of Ted's horsey things having been in the house.

I wouldn't recommend going to the laundrette. I managed to flood the place when washing rugs. I put them on a delicate cold wash, which didn't spin the rugs. I was unaware of this and pulled out my cleaned rugs only to leave huge puddles of dirty water around the washing machine, the rugs fibre filling was saturated! It was not much fun as rugs didn't clean up that much and it created such a mess. I ended up leaving with sopping wet rugs that took days to dry, as couldn't face re-washing and putting on a spin cycle after cleaning up the muddy puddles.

I love my horsey OH!! Everything goes in the machine, followed by yard clothes, followed by shooting clothes before work/casual clothes!

I use an old duvet cover and pop my stable rugs / numnah in that. I'm fortunate my OH has no sense of smell and rarely ventures near the washing machine
