I have two beautiful Le Mieux Saddlecloths that I got for a song at the Equine Event last November. They are both half lined with sheepskin, one saddlecloth is black and one is white. They were reduced from £68 to £20 and £15 respectively due to slight design faults.

However my black one which I only said I would use 'every now and then' and ended up using every day, is now filthy. Does anyone have one of these and how do you go about washing it?

Rub human hair conditioner into the skin. Then wash at 30 degrees with a liquid wash designed for wool, such as the one from griffin nuumed. DO NOT use powder to wash wool, it clogs the fibres and reduces their ability to absorb sweat.

Hi. I would wash it at 30 degrees and use hibiscrub instead of normal washing liquid

I regularly wash my Le Mieux sheepskin half pads and slather cheapo juman hair conditioner all over them first, then wash on wool wash in the machine with water softener and Woolite.
Never had a problem.

Most if not all Nuumed product are wool and not sheepskin. The Nuumed Nuwash is not designed for use with actual skin products. I have Stephens sheepskin numnahs and I use their recommended product. It is a phosphorate free shampoo which doesn't dry the oil out of the skin or the fleece and can be used in the washing machine on a 30 degree wash. After washing the sheepskin must be dried naturally and not over a radiator etc. You might need to just fluff it up a bit with a hair brush once it's dry. Over time you may find that you get a slight bit of colour fade with the black one but otherwise they'll be fine, I wash mine once a month.

Melp. Absolutely FAB stuff - if it's not made by Mattes then it's certainly recommended by them. I've used it on my sheepskin girth sleeves, had them for at least 5 years and they look and feel brand new. No faffing about, just sling it and filthy item in machine, wash on 30 degrees, done. I get mine from saddle exchange.
