Washing the fluff on a grackle

Hi HH’ers,

How do I wash the sheepskin on my Henry James grackle. Obviously carefully but it’s very greasy and dirty and loosing its fluffy look. It’s stuck to the leather so I can’t separate it. I’m sure one of you will have an ingenious way to wash it. Thanks In Advance.

I just mix a little woolite detergent with warm water in a small bowl and dunk it in. Squish it around a bit and then rinse in warm water (being careful not to soak the leather at any point). Squeeze the sheepskin into a towel and then leave to air dry.

You can buy replacement sheepskin and just replace it. I got mine on ebay x

I clean mine with surgical spirit on a cloth. Probably not too good for the wool but mines been OK for about 8 years now.

Leather wash (eg Melp from Mattes) but there are others, recommended for sheepskin linings, unlike wool wash which is what so many use.
