long story short; 1yo golden retriever ended up pulling a claw off on a walk; the whole thing. Happened on a saturday afternoon, went to vets on the monday. They said looked slightly infected, gave antibiotics, told to wash with salty water and come back 5 days later.
went back yesterday and they said still looked a bit infected so more antibiotics + wash with hibi.

is there any way to wash wounds like this without needing two people to hold the front end? It needs quite a vigorous wash to take any layers of dirt off and the poor pup cries a bit, and tries to get away from me constantly.
obviously i do have to do this but [and this may be a silly question] will he still trust me after all this is done? he's quite a sensitive flower and i dont want him to associate me with causing pain !!
Also any general tips for getting this to heal quicker would be great. It's put in a sock/bandage when out on walks

I would prepare a clean, preferably new bucket of warm saltywater.Get the dog ,on a collar and lead, between your legs so your knees control him and your hands are free. soak the leg as long as he is comfortable. remove dog from bucket.
Then, you can apply betadine to the torn nail bed when the dog is free standing.
I would apply the betadine on a well soaked like pad of cotton wool.
Lots of gentle praise and the odd treat.
After it has air dried I would use an elasticized bandage to keep the area free of dirt when you excercise. I would also insert a cotton pad with betadine on it inside the bandage...later supplementing it with a powder antibiotic such as cicatrene.the latter is an antibiotic powder that favors healing and is especially recommended for open wounds.
If these names are different in UK,just google them...we re in Italy here.
