Wasp Sting!!

My mare has been stung in-between her front legs, more on the right hand side of the inner leg...

She's of a sensitive nature anyway, and is now really suspicious of me, as last night I managed to cover it in vinegar and then Aloe... Now she's 'not speaking to me'

I don't particularly want to go down the Piriton route as I knew a horse who had one hell of a nasty reaction to it.
If it's still up this afternoon and just as hot and swollen, I'll call the vet out. Do not need it getting infected.

We're at a new yard and there seems to be a serious wasp problem. There isn't a nest, but the bloody things are everywhere, and continually landing on the horses.
They have full fly sheets on, but any exposed flesh, they're there.

Any advice on the sting itself (for future stings that may occur), and a way of deterring/killing the wasps would be great!

Think your Vet is the best one to ask about treatment and deterring wasps from stinging. As for the wasps themselves, I would think there is a nest somewhere, they can be on the ground as apparently they disappear for winter underground. Where I walk my dogs there is one in the banking alongside a path we walk, looks like a rabbit hole. Ive seen them going in and out and hubbie got stung walking past it. A good pest control company could get rid of any you may find. We had one on our yard, again in some banking, man came and put something in it and they are all gone.

Are your vets nice enough that you can ring for advice instead of incurring call out fee? I did use piriton for a reaction to a fly bite earlier in the year and they gave me the dosage over the phone.

Also told me I'd be fine to ride on that dosage - but as horse was practically snoring as I led her out to her field I was glad I didn't!

I keep a big pot in my stash because the boy horse gets dreadfully itchy
