My young collie has just been stung by a wasp, about halfway up her forearm. I have given her Piriton and Metacam. Any suggestions as to what else I should do.

Just keep an eye on it. It sounds to me like you've done everything you can for now. Even if it swells up, it will go down eventually.
When I used to walk the dogs in woodland, they used to get stung on a fairly regular basis at the end of the summer. They would jump, have a look but nothing ever came of the sting - they didn't even swell that much.
The only time I ever had real bother was on a new walking route and one of my dogs stuck his head in a beehive that I didn't know was around the corner. Oh my days!! Multiple stings, trip to the vets, lots of steroids, touch and go at one point but he pulled through.

One September, on a regular walk in the woods, we had 7 Labs attacked by wasps - I think they must have disturbed a nest. We were pulling stings out of their ears with tweezers for what felt like hours afterwards. A phonecall to the vet elicited the advice to give paracetamol and monitor, which we did and no-one suffered any ill effects . One black and one yellow were obviously more attractive to the wasps than the rest. We have however, had a both a horse and sheep stung by ground-nesting bees who did suffer ill effects to the point that we called the vet.
And I was stung by a wasp last week, minding my own business in my own yard, and 10 days later I still have a red swelling on my forearm, so I have every sympathy with your poor collie.

Ah this is very timely! Millie lurcher snapped at a wasp this morning and has got stung on her muzzle - it’s weird, she clearly reacted at the time but her face hasn’t swelled up? So a day at home for me monitoring her..... and playing with Colin puppy.....

Yes I always forget how much they really hurt! I do tell the dogs not to snap at them, but they never listen ??

A paste made up of bicarbonate of soda (aka baking soda) and water smeared onto the sting point (cover thickly and can cover with light bandage) can help remove the pain. Renew every 15 mins or so.
I keep baking soda in my med box at yard, just in case I cant lay my hands on my anthisan.
Cider apple vinegar or neat vinegar on a cotton wool pad can help with wasp stings too.

There's no cow on the ice
After checking, and possibly removing any remaining stinger, I've heard that putting an ice pack (or similar) in a towel, and holding it against the bite area, can help with both pain, and swelling.
Hope everyone have an uneventful rest of the day, and that the wasp stings doesn't cause any more trouble.

I keep bentalan for stings ( or piriton)...seems to ward off any swelling reaction .
i had one pup years ago that actively hunted the bees...we had to cut off all flower heads in one garden to deter the bees ,for two years...then she outgrew the habit.

Hope she’s ok.
My pup was stung by a bee last year and it left the sting in her lip. Cue hysterics from the dog- liquid poop all over the sofa when we attempted to remove it. Had to take her to out of hours vets and it took 3 of us 3 attempts to remove it (she’s a Shih Tzu x JR- haha!).
Unfortunately it’s not put her off bees. We often find her pursuing them in the garden.

I had to put steroid cream on my arm as well as taking anti-histamines but I wouldn't do that for the dog without vet's advice.

Thankfully my little girl is fine today. Her forearm was still puffy when we went to bed but back to normal now. I was worried because this is the dog that had a serious foot infection only a few weeks ago and that may have been caused by a sting initially. I think I shall continue with this one's insurance

Had an interesting evening
My poor Weim was stung by a hornet on his nuts last night. I'm not joking when I say they swelled up like giant plums and he wouldn't let us get anywhere near them.
The character Buster Gonad and his incredibly large testicles sprang to mind . Poor dog looked like he needed a sling for them.
Phone call to vet and because he didn't seem near deaths door we gave him a Previcox as that was the best thingl we had to hand . Vet ready to come out if needed.
He had a restless evening looking very sorry for himself and very sorrowfully at his over ripe fruits.
All ok today thankfully, but that will teach me to delay getting him castrated!

Shady, I read this out to my husband, he nearly choked he was laughing so much, went bright red. Poor dog, what a place to get stung.

I know ! poor sod. If I hadn't been so worried i'd have died laughing . AND he clearly blamed me!. I was going to whip them off as he keeps trying to shag the cat but they are normally so neat and bouncy and he's such a good dog.... except for the cat obsession that is.......!
