Took Mustard to Addington for his 2nd outing with the intention of jumping the 75cm CR a couple of times. Got there at 5.30, entries closed at 6.30 so thought I'd be fairly safe.
Place was heaving- hundreds of horses and ponies everywhere. Nobody with any sense- why do people insist on standing on the track of an already narrow school where people are trying to jump?!! 60 left to jump in class 1.
Course was tiny and there was no photographer- the main reason for going!! No point jumping him round 2'3, it's not going to do his technique any favours.
Decided to get him out and warm-up in the quieter outdoor and see how it went- if he coped then I would enter him in the class and hope to jump fairly soon. He was very sweet to warm up, totally baffled by what everyone else was doing but relaxed and did some nice work. After about 1/2 an hour (6.15) I went up to the indoor to enter. They'd closed entries!!!! Was SO cross- they should have been open another 15 mins. There were already 50 on the list for the next class so I gave up.
Jumped him in the indoor warm-up, started with a steep cross which he bashed behind and that really woke him up- he jumped beautifully after that!! Sods law really that it all felt good on a day where we couldnt then go in and try to keep it in the ring.
Only just got home.
