Wasted?

I've often said to people who think my horse is "wasted" because I don't compete any more....

"how many horses do you think stand in their stable thinking, I want to go out in the rattly metal box, and then to a strange place, and back in the rattly box again, please take me to a competition...."

Most horses are happy if you show them some TLC, feed them and let them play in the field...

I've 2 horses, and I rode the "youngster" (now 17) for the first time this year yesterday...

I will not get rid and to be honest i couldn't care less if i never ride again i enjoy the looking after.

What do u think .

I think this /\ what you said yourself. People should mind their own business, if you are enjoying caring for your horses and they have all they need then why not. My late girl was a glorified pet to be honest, as is my new girl. I adore having my own horse in my life again. I cant ride her as she is not yet broken so we are going for walks together, and i just love the every day care. I have a pretty awful back too. But anyway, I digress, they should butt out in honesty. Hopefully they will you to it and focus on their own lives instead!

Your horses are your property OP provided their basic needs are met what you do with them is your buisness so ignore any one giving you grief just as I ignore anyone who disaggrees with me when I put one of mine to sleep.

i havent ridden since last summer and frankly i dont feel bad because it doesnt change the way i look after them or feel about them and if i didnt ever ride again they are my babies just as if they were dogs (you dont ride dogs), so what i do ocassionally is long rein them it is really good fun, both of us are getting some exercise and it is a real bonding because you have to trust each other, and when those who hate the thought that you have a horse and it is not earning its keep by competiting, i can tell them that i am starting them off again slowly, its shuts them up quite quickly. enjoy them they are yours.

of course it doesnt matter, if your horses are loved, happy and healthy then whats the problem? theyre your horses you can enjoy them how you like! dont let anyone tell you to get rid of them if they make you happy :)

I 100% agree with everyone else!! If your happy and your horses are happy then what does it matter??

The only time this has ever got to me is when the owners can't be bothered to go and see them as I always think that there is someone out there who would love to have a horse to look after but can't afford it and some people have the money but don't have the time or simply can't be bothered.
