Water board regulations mean no hoses on the farm

I think it would be easier for you to list for us what you DON'T have experience of OF :D

Einstein is quoted as saying:- "Two things are infinite - The Universe and the stupity of man but I'm not too sure of the first" - it remains to be seen just how stupid I am to post on here.
I've been very lucky to be born with an enquiring mind and even luckier to indulge it mainly at other folk's expense.

Dont forget he is not far from Heathrow

Tell me inspector - there's something I don't understand - how do you know Old Fogie is near Heathrow?

I play with a few rockets everyday scaring pigeons!

This one frit about sixty sea eagles as I watched:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUlMj5FF-GI
There's not many things in my life that have brought a lump to my throat and a tear to my eye - but that roll is something to witness - and the damned noise which is felt rather than heard. On the same trip I also visited Morton Thiokol the geysers that made the boosters and looking around their storage facility (dump) I casually asked - "what would you do if this lot caught fire" - er, run pretty quick!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGSx54CkWsQ if anyone is unsure what is meant by the word "explosion" there are two very good examples of percussion wave in this video -the telltale of a detonation. The best bit occurs at 8.50 ish - keep your eye on the white roofed building top lefthand corner.

Well unless it is all BS their isnt much of Bucks that overlooks the M25

I shall remember that your idea of near is 22 miles then. That's for the slip to Terminal 5 - though ironically, a very good percentage of all take-offs pass over my house - directly over it on their climb out to 3,000ft - not surprising when you consider that the DME (Distance Measuring Device) on 177Mhz is just down the lane and for landings the Bovingdon Stack extends my way from the north.

We had this problem a few years ago, a Little Hitler from the local waterboard (South West Water) came out here and snooped around the yard, and declared that we were not allowed to have hose-pipes hanging down as there had, apparently, been a problem a few years ago on the Thames, where a boatyard had used hoses for cleaning off boats etc., and then left them on the ground when not being used. At high tide the mucky water from the Thames came up and "backflow" into the domestic water supply occurred, with the resultant pollution of a vast amount of water supplies in that area. This is why they're so very shate-scared of hosepipes and "backflow".

The way around it, we found, was to fit a ballcock and tank; the only problem with this is that the pressure was a bit reduced, but it was the cheapest and easiest solution to the problem. When Little Hitler came back he still found a few things he wasn't happy with, but nothing he could legally "enforce".

These people are a total PITA, and at the end of the day we had originally asked the water board to call because OUR water supply kept going on and off periodically! Then they sent this man and he found a "problem" here (after we'd already spent a lot of money sorting the water out to our satisfaction). Parasite!! :(

Or he could have been a normal human being trying to do his job and protect the public water supply...including yours. Just because you hadn’t realised you needed one til he got there didn’t mean you weren’t breaching regulations, not his fault.

Yeh, but some of 'em do so love it don't they? I bet you speak up for parking wardens too eh?

Don't forget that the reason why the Thames water polluted the mains ( if it actually was the problem) it was the damn water company's fault for dumping sewage in it. Getting them to clean up their own act is like popping in to the Bank of England and asking if they'll give you a real pound sterling for your notes. Hahah.

I would if some arrogant old fogie had parked illegally and was putting people at risk as a result, yes.

Old Fogie yes, arrogant no - and I'm sure you meant to write "hadn't" rather than "had" as you did. Rather spoils your caustic wit.
Ironically, one of my trucks had a habit of suddenly loosing power last year and on one occassion I deliberately ran two wheels on to the footpath to leave the road clear (it was a very wide footpath and close to a car park entrance, I really couldn't see I was doing any harm) switching the ignition on and off several times made the thing spring to life again so off I went only to get a parking ticket in the post! For one minute twenty seconds never getting out of the vehicle.

Mmmmm I'd love to think that he was at heart a charitable soul and was a "real Christian" even, LOL ......... BUT, but, he was unfortunately one of those individuals who just loves to watch your reaction when he's delivering bad (i.e. expensive) news which is never to your advantage; you know the sort, the more punitive the penalty the more his sense of job satisfaction increases. Would've loved to have loved the guy too...... LOL

I used to work in water quality for a large water company and I can tell you that bad home plumbing causes so many issues. It would make our jobs so much easier if people just used the correct fittings! Also not using WRAS approved fittings in your home can actually lead to a criminal conviction FOR YOU even if you didn't know the plumber wasn't using them.

We had a drain overflow because someone poured left over concrete down it!

Did you pay your last builder's bill? Hahah! This used to be the standard "let's get one back on the Guv'nor" for every disgruntled worker on the building site - barrowload of concrete down the nearest manhole -"that's it, I'm jacking"!

I spent at lot of time down in manholes as a young'un chipping the damn stuff out!

We had water installed at our yard last year and for a very short amount of hose (we are feet away from water mains on the road) there is about three stop valves and as many none return valves and yes we couldn't have a hose fitting attachment to the tap.

We had an old tap in the top paddock which we used and took a saw to it and put that on for the final inspection and sign off and when he left we put a normal tap on and attached the hose. Even the water guy doing the inspection said it was crazy and he was the one that 'hinted' thats what we should do. If they ever come back they will need to ask permission to get on the land at which time we will change the tap back to the none hose one whilst they inspect. Simple.

Thats ok but they dont have to ask permission they have a statutory right of access.

It was a local homeowner who thought it would just wash away......unfortunately not....

Also most of these rules around fittings etc aren't because the water companies just want to, or to be awkward, they are what we are REQUIRED to do by LAW in order to provide safe drinking water under drinking water regulations.

This. Yards and smallholdings are deemed very high risk for water contamination which is why they insisted on so many stop valves and check valves and no hose fitting on the tap.

I had a quick search and it sounds like it depends whether you are a domestic premises or not as to what is required. For non domestic premises a cistern is required.
OP are you a livery or an employee?

This rings a bell and is perhaps why my main tap is right up the top on the fence line and not at my stables. I seem to remember the man saying if I did it like that it would be easier as I could just run a hose down to my stables whereas if the main supply went down there it would be very complicated and would need a cistern. I have a blue pipe buried instead of a hose so it’s as good as, I just have an extra tap at the top.

These are all criminal convictions, sentences handed down by the courts following either a guilty plea or a guilty verdict at a trial. Companies cannot be sentenced to prison time (directors can if the incident can be directly attributable to their consent, connivance or neglect) and so penalties are limited to financial ones, but it is a criminal conviction.

Our water is jammed full of Aluminium Sulphate, Chlorine and even Flouride - bugs within 30ft of a tap shrivel and die hahah. All the stuff you read about pollutants from sources other than the water companies themselves is largely bunk. Rather similar to the term "rising damp" - the average blurb about that is utter rubbish too yet folk are forced to heed what is said about it if they want a mortgage on some houses. For those of you questioning this - have a think about barometers - they register around about 32/3 inches of mercury at the most - that's because the force of gravity won't let the mercury rise any higher no matter what. Yet all damp proofing firm cut your plaster off 4ft up the wall or more!

This venturi business is the same - the science is good - its application cr*p.

Where did you get most of these 'facts' from? I can tell you most of it is wrong. Take fluoride, most of that is naturally occurring and where it is added to the water it is the local authority that pay for it to be added so nothing to do with the water company! Chlorine is added so that you don't die from pathogens in the water and is put in in far far less quantities then the USA does!
