a lucozade (sp) bottle so not huge 1/2 litre i think.

was gonna attach top of sock to d-ring then a bit of baler twine holding the bottom of the sock to girth straps and then something (not sure what yet?!) round the top of the sock to hold the bottle in it - any suggestions?

Hi, don't know if this helps, but you can buy small drink bottles from sports shops, which have velcro that wraps around them, with a clip on the end. They are a really good size and can be clipped straight onto the dee ring. Think mines a Nike one?
It's greay for long summer rides.

I wouldn't worry too much, most people don't take a drink.

I'm going on one tomorrow and neither me nor my friends will be carrying a drink. Enjoy yourself

Most people I know who do endurance, at whatever level, do in fact carry a drink - water or sports drink. I did an 18k training ride yesterday and drank a half-litre bottle of Powerade on the way round, plus another half-litre of water back at the venue. If you don't drink till you feel thirsty, then you're already dehydrated. And it's a lot easier to make mistakes when you're dehydrated - believe me, been there and done that!

Not much help to you now as you need it for today but I have a bum bag which has 2 pocket especially designed to carry bottles and keep them cool, it was only £7 off of e-bay can carry keys and phone in it too.
