Water container smell

I’ve been given a water container that used to have fabric conditioner in. It’s about 25 litres screw top. Really useful for me as I have no tap. Problem is I can’t still smell fabric conditioner after several rinses. Anything I can do or just admit this is no good.

I'd usually clean a container with soapy water and sterilise with Milton solution, but plastic containers are slightly porous, which means the surface may have absorbed some of the chemicals from the conditioner. For that reason, I would not use a container that has stored anything other than water over a prolonged period.

That's a good point. Microplastics and all that.
