I add a little water to my mares feed am and pm for supplements and to try and slow her down a little. We are on a DIY assisted yard, so often I prepare her breakfast the previous evening and leave a little water in a bottle to be added in the morning for the staff to give her if I can't get down. As the colder nights are starting this is obviously not going to work as the water will freeze. My question is - she has corn oil added to her evening feed and I'm thinking of adding it to her AM feed as well, the night before so the food still gets damped down as such without the freezing aspect. Will this be ok mixing it in the night before?

I think you're possibly worrying too much ;)

I've never had a problem with feeds freezing, I have heard a few people say this, but I am usually the one feeding the whole yard in the mornings, and never seen a feed frozen over. My feeds are not just dampened, but soaked, and it's not been an issue.

Hi
The top layer of feeds at our yard has frozen before, we havent had any problems becuase of it. I always dampen mine down when I prepare them - too much to ask which ever poor person it is who gets there first to faff about with bottles.
The oil will help keep it crumbly

Come visit me for a couple of months, you will :D ;)

Unless it is heated anything freezes here within minutes, even the rabbits have heated waterbowls :)

OP, as Lotty says, simply use a thermos, that should do the trick.
