First of all, does anybody have any reccomendations for ankle/knee length socks that are waterproof but don't cost a bomb? I know about sealskins, but they're sooo expensive and mu won't fork out the money and I can't afford them!

And also, any knee high/ thigh high thermal socks? Preferably not too expensive either. Or will a long pair of socks be warm enough under muck boots? I'm hoping so!

Water proof and warm gloves that aren't too thick!? I know about latex gloves over/under other gloves, but my hands sweat in them

And last of all, you know them head scarfs that you can wear over your head, but under your riding hat? Are they any good?? Or would I be better off getting a 5 in 1 pull over scarf (robinsons have them) as my hat is pretty warm. If anybody has any reccomended makes/style of warm riding scarfs they're welcome.
(I usually ride in a normal scarf but the flappy bits at the end annoy me

lol.

Many thanks. Lizzie.

For gloves, I wear a pair of thin gloves with silk glove liners underneath - they're fantastic for keeping your hands warm, are thin so can be worn under any gloves and they don't make my hands sweaty or bring me out in a rash. I can highly recommend them!

Shall keep that in mind, but I do a fair bit of yard work too involving cold water. I'm not sure the silk would be waterproof?

Pound shop do knee length socks. I find one pair is plenty even inside wellies. If your tootsies get a bit cold you can always add another pair of thin socks. Go for layers rather than one thick pair as they'll trap the heat better.

ski socks, honestly. and while you're in the ski shop, get a fleece neckwarmer (turtle fur ones are the best, i have ones still going strong at about 10 years old!) because they make such a difference to how warm you are.
no idea about gloves... i've got sealskinz but they're too thick really. woof ones aren't bad, but aren't waterproof or thermal unfortunately.

there's a company called nolimitswetsuits on ebay- i bought some a while ago to wear while riding in iceland and they kept me nice and toasty:) and not even 5 pairs of woolen socks can keep me warm!they were around £15 inc post when i got them

The scarf things - name escapes me at moment - are really good. Thin enough to go under riding hat (get a plain one) not one with fleece on it) keeps your ears warm, or you can just have it round your neck, great for stopping rain getting inside your clothes and so light and non flappy you dont know you've got it on. Oh I remembered the name its Buff.

I didnt know turtles had fur....

Dont know about thermal socks - but I buy a pack of 12 pairs of mailboxsocks.com - they're only about £15 for 12 pairs of knee high socks! On cold days, I put them on and then another normal ankle pair over the top. I think Muck Boots are pretty warm though.

Have no idea about waterproof gloves because Ive found anything like that too thick which I hate. I just use a normal pair of cheapo Magic Gloves!

Head scarf wise - do you mean a Buff (buffwear.co.uk)? If so, Ive been thinking of getting one to try under a riding hat. Havent yet though. I did try wearing a normal beanie underneath a hat thats a bit big for me but it wasnt very comfy! For a normal scarf - I use one of those fleece "neck tubes" of Ebay, really cheap but much easier than an actual scarf!
