Water purification cubes

Hi,
I am just wondering if anyone has used these in the paddock water? I saw an advertisement today, and they look good, but sound a bit too good to be true! Anyone tried them? Something like this

Activated Carbon for use in aquariums. Useful for mopping up stuff like medications and junk from the water, but it has a limited effective time span before it dumps it all back out into the water again. You'd probably need a fair few for them to have any effect on your horses water, and I'd be doubtful about how effective they'd be in a trough without the water flow an aquarium would have provided by the filter.
I'm sure you could probably get some sort of filter attachment to go on the tap if you were concerned about the water quality, at least that way the water has to pass through the filter.

Have seen a few posts on horsey groups on FB which I am on about the carbon blocks; general consensus is they're a waste of money as dissolve very soon.

There are plenty of inline filter systems intended for household use that will take out sand, bacteria, parasites, hardness and some chemicals that give tapwater an unpleasant taste.
