Has anyone's used a water treadmill? I'm considering it for my boy who has a hind suspensory injury. The vet and physio are all for it and said it's great to help build muscle back up. I'm only hanging back because I'm so worried about whether he'll take to it... I'm worried he'll panic 🙄
Any experiences of first timers, how did they take to it?

Sorry, my horse hasn't been in one, but I've just seen a video online about Valegro being taken to Hartpury College to use their water treadmill. Is that anywhere close to you, or have you looked into yards in your area for any that you can use?

I did a course of water treadmill with my horse, she is the biggest idiot going bar none! She took to her fine, obviously she was introduced to it slowly but she didn't freak out or refuse point black to go on.
In the end she was raring to get on there and get going.

My two friends who are sisters have used a water treadmill for their horses. They went away on holiday for two weeks and left them at the rehab place and they used it every day. they saw them use the treadmill before they went on holiday to make sure they were happy using it. On their return from holiday my friends have reported that both horses are moving much better and feel looser and freer in their movement, they certainly look better for it.They weren't injured at the time but my friends felt it beneficial for them to go there whilst they were away. They are now keeping up the treatments by taking their horses every week as a 'top up'. Its about £30 per session.

Hi, yes I use one every week for my recently backed youngster to help build up muscle. It's definitely working well and as for getting used to it she's not the laidback type and found it easy, the staff do it all the time. This is where we use www.surreywatertreadmill.co.uk Go for it!

My horse has been for 1 session and loved it. Took to it really well, they led him through it first then slowly set it moving before the water went in. Its for general fitness and wellbeing and he does have a bit of arthritis in his hocks. Going tomorrow for session number 2
