After happily drinking out of the water trough for the last goodness knows how long our two horses have suddenly refused to touch it and are going thirst rather than drink the water in it. I've tipped it and scrubbed it twice to no avail - any ideas what else I could do? As a temporary measure I've put a large tub trug in it and they are happy to drink out of that but it needs filling twice a day which is something of a pain.

Can you move it to a different location? maybe something living under it/ near it is putting them off?

Or a couple of cartons of apple juice in it to make it more tempting?

This happened to my mare once and I am pretty sure she had an electric shock from the tape across the middle, dividing the paddocks. I ended up putting her a trug bucket in the field for a few weeks before she went back to using it.

Electric shock was my first though too - could that be a possibilty OP?
