Do you have a metal one, or a plastic one? Plus any thoughts/explanations regarding your preferences welcome

We use old bath tubs

Easy to drain- take plug out! And easy to keep clean. They are heavy stone ones-not the plastic cheap ones you get nowerdays

We have a mixture of big and small metal ones. The big ones are a pain to clean but the small ones are great because you can just tip them over and then let them refill.

at home i have a selection of metal ones and water butt type things that i fill with a hose pipe,no prob and easy to clean.i am wanting to install a self filling one in the big field cos all i seem to do lately is cart water about.

In the field that we only use in the spring we have an old bath - we are very lucky to have a natural spring that we have "tapped" to fill the bath! All the rest of the time I have a big tub trug that I move around.

We have some old donated bath tubs, one old metal trough that came with the field and some plastic that we bought. The plastic are the best as they are light, easy to clean, safe and self filling. The metal one is awful and has not been used by use as it has rusted and has very sharp edges.

My friend had a new bathroom fitted and she asked the builders to put her old bath in the field for her horses to drink from, when she went out there later that day she couldn't stop laughing because the builder had thoughtfully dug a big hole and put the bath in it, so the top was level with the ground!!
God knows what he was thinking, but at least he tried!

I have two large flexi tubs. Ponio is fine with anything but horse gets in the troughs and has been known to pick up buckets in the summer and tip them over her face... Two flexi tubs mean I can move them around and they withstand being used as a paddling pool
