Waterford Snaffle

Horse I am buying uses it for xc. It is good as they cannot hold onto the bit or lean on it

I use a loose ring waterford snaffle on my TB ex-racer as he was starting to lean on my hands & was pulling when jumping. He was in a french link hanging cheek. He's lovely in the waterford. He doesn't hang or lean & is not pulling or running off as much when jumping.

As catherineskinner says you do need a size up from normal. Chilli's is 1/4" bigger than any other bit he's had.

it's a good bit for jumping, as the horse can't lean on it. cannot be used for schooling though as obviously you cannot establish a contact for the horse to go forward to. i've used it on a getting-strong forward-thinking eventer just once for xc and was then able to go back to a snaffle for the rest of his career. you do need to order bigger than usual because the multiple links shorten the bit in the mouth. i prefer the ones with proper "shoulders" where the bit joins the bit rings, because it is smoother on the horse's lips/corners of mouth.
