Spring has finally sprung and we're very much enjoying the sunshine! :D But i just wondered how everyone keeps their surface watered during the summer. Our surface was put in last September which is sand and rubber. The sand was BONE DRY when it was put in and has ridden very deep in places over winter and now with no rain for over a week its starting to ride very deep and after lunging one horse (moving them up and down the arena) its so churned it needs raking before riding any others. The sand on the top 2 inches is bone dry again and i think this is what is causing the issues.

Sooo i just wondered how you all keep them riding nice over the dryer spells. I have tried a sprinkler but it just takes forever to get round every section.

i have read about some people using like a spray system along each side.

Any info would be great TIA x

We have to water our indoor arena and as you say a sprinkler take forever so we have several 1000L water tanks (the type that are in metal cages sometimes called IBC tanks) which we fill in advance and then connect them to a trash pump to spray the school. It's much quicker and I think Mr EM secretly likes playing at being a fireman.

We water ours with a muck speayer. It dies result in a rather wet surface initially but once it's sat for a bit it leaves the sand a good consistency for riding. (Obviously we use water, not muck)
