Im lucky enough to have an indoor arena however was thinking of installing some sort of sprinkling system - at the moment I spend about an hour watering it by hand just wondering if anyone has seen/experienced any good CHEAP systems!! (have tried the osscolating (sp) garden waterers but get wet uneven patches with them).
Also am hoping to get a new surface and was thinking of using rubber - as it would be pretty dust free - again would love to hear anyones opinion.

Hi, We have a hose pipe going down the length of the 2 longest sides of the school. Every 2/3 meters we have a nozzle...turn it on and bobs your uncle. It also helps as your spraying the air so helps to force the dust down.
We used to use 3 garden sprinklers down the middle of the school but they only seemed to get the school really wet in patches!!!
We had rubber chips put on top of the sand about 2 years ago but it still needs watering in hot weather.
My friend uses an old muck sprayer that you see in fields sometimes, it's like a garden sprinkler but in a larger scale it's also fitted to a winch so it slowly gets pulled down the school. I think she got it from a farm sale...but a dairy farmer should be able to point you in the right direction if that's the way you wanted to go?
My other friend contacted a shop that was being refitted and asked for their sprinkler heads and uses the same hosepipe system i use but hung from the roof...might be worth a cheeky question next time you see a empty shop!!?!!
Anyway, hope this helps?

we have a water irrigation system hung from our ceiling which works really well - bought it for about £100 from b and q

The surface I have at the moment is about 20 years old!! so it really is more like dust! As budget is a big problem I was going to get sand from a local quarry (in southern ireland). Doesnt ride deep at all in fact the opposite because I have to water it so much it is now compacting Thanks again for your comments!!

That sounds interesting toomanyhorses26 - what kind of sprinklers did you use - how far apart did you put them - did you have three rows (say for a 20x40) school or would two be enough - I think my water pressure may be a problem but think you can get low pressure sprinklers? Love the sound of the £100 cost - could def presuade the hubby if the cost was around that!

It was a while back but we changed the nozzles to one that sprays more as the nozzles that were already with the set were the drippy kind so for the first couple of goes we just got big wet patches. We just have it snaked across our roof in a serpentine shape. It takes about 30/45 mins from completely dry to a really nice surface but we have old woodchips/bark and sand as our surface so times would prob be reduced for sand/rubber. I think if you went to a big garden centre then you could prob do a mix and match from the beginning and choose exactly what you want. The system is up on the roof and we have a hozelock hose and al the proper connectors and nothing has sprung a leak or come apart yet
