I know waterproof fly sheets are not designed for heavy rain, last night rather caught me out and my two horses and one of the ponies were out in waterproof fly rugs.

So guess which horse came in wettest/driest......

Rambo summer series. Brand new end of last summer, little use and never washed

Masta Field masta. maybe 2 summers use. has been cleaned

Premier Equine Superlite Stay Dry- Again very little use but I have washed it myself before packing away for winter.

One had a Loveson light weight turnout on, that was the wettest underneath 🤷‍♀️

I would guess the Masta stayed driest?

We got caught out too, but horse stayed dry underneath our shires waterproof fly rug, apart from a tiny bit of leakage on the neck. Impressed with that...

I sold my Shires waterproof with heavy mesh sides as the only time it was used, in light rain, the horse was soaked through. Not sure if it was rain or condensation but either way it was useless.
I have no idea which of yours was best but am interested to hear.

The Rambo was absolutely drenched, not just the sides but along his back had gone completely through.
The PE was suprisingly not too wet. The waterproof back is fairly high on it so his sides were really wet from the mesh but he had a very definite dry stripe down his spine.
Yes, The Masta was best though! Pony was a bit soggy but again mostly though the mesh areas. his back was bone dry- Its 1200d and quite a heavy one. Wish I'd bought them all one really but at the time it was the cheap option and the only one that came in a small enough size. Sadly they don't appear to have any on the website any more so not sure if they are still made

That's interesting. The rambo rugs are usually so good so it's a bit disappointing that the summer series isn't. I have a derby house waterproof fly rug that must be at least five years old and I was expecting it to have been swamped after a full night of rain but apart from a bit of wet on the side the horse was still dry so we'll see if it's still battling on this afternoon. It's a brilliant rug though as the side panels are much more meshy than a normal fly rug so that it doesn't retain water and it also is a good, deep size so covers them really well. Just a shame Derby House aren't going anymore.

I live the Rambo and to be fair it’s great for what it’s designed for which probably isn’t hours and hours of solid rain.
It was a real surprise though the difference when I removed them this morning!

I’ve been struggling with the summer series this year- 1 has a rubbed chest from one and 2 have broken the elastic straps from kicking their belly’s.

It’s a shame as they’re my ‘best’ lighter weight rugs and I’ve got 2!
