When this bad weather finally ends, the pony and I need to get fit again...no excuses! We've both got a bit unfit thanks to the combination of a frozen school and too many christmas treats

So, as it will probably rain for weeks when everything thaws out, I need to be waterproofed! I have millions of coats, pony has a good waterproof exercise sheet, but I need some waterproof leg wear.

What do people wear to keep their legs dry when riding?? I've got some normal waterproof trousers but if I wear them over my jods I can't fit them inside my boots...

I use waterproof trousers from Robinsons around the yard but if I am going to ride I wear Dublin waterproof chaps, they're fleece lined so they keep your legs warm as well, which is what you need at the moment!

I use a pair of motorbike waterporrof trousers. They have zips up the outside of the legs and put them over the top of my boots.

Musto Snug Jods are waterproof much to my surprise!! Am always bone dry wearing them. Also Rambo fleece lined full chaps, couldn't be without either of them!!

waterproof chaps, I have a pair made by thermatex (dont think they do them anymore) just waterproof no filling and are great

I dont do wet knees!

Get some Musto full seat overpants -they are amazing - I've lived in mine for the past few weeks - Fully water and weather proof!

The rambo overtrousers are great, and if you get the none fleece lined ones like mine they can still be worn over normal jodhs even when it gets warmer.

I swear by my Mark Todd chaps, waterpoof and warm, the only downside is that if it is really tanking down and I rise out of the saddle the water sometimes runs down my coat onto the saddle giving me a wet bum

, but it is not often and they make up for it by being super warm.

Shires waterproof fleece lined chaps for winter over short boots and waterproof unlined over-trousers in summer by Peter Storm (walking brand being marginally cheaper than horse brand and also an eBay bargain). They are very slippy in the saddle though. Haven't seen them since moving house.

Wear the over trousers you already have but over your boots rather than inside. Saves you buying something new that you might not get a lot of wear from.

Keep your eyes out in the sales for waterproof gear, Ihave a long waterproof riding mac that I bought dead cheap in a sale and is fab for riding in bad weather, especially warming up at competitions where you wouldn't be able to take off trousers or chaps.

Don't discount waterproof trousers or chaps from non-horsey brands often they are better quality for less money. I have seen ones for hiking that go to calf length as they are designed to be worn over snow gaiters but they are equally effective with long riding boots. Most have zips at the ankles with a vent too so you can get them over your boots.

Thanks folks, I shall look into all your suggestions

I have tried wearing my current w.proof troosers over my boots but they sort of ride upwards (lazy pony means I have to use my legs a lot!!). I looked at the ski trousers in tk maxx a few weeks ago but thought they would ride up too?
