Waterproof jods... worth it or just uncomfortable?

THinking of investing in some of these this year. I can't afford not to ride my cob even on the wettest day as he's (I have learnt from bitter experience) fine if ridden/worked regularly and a little **** if not... and he's worse in the winter...

So do I just 'get wet' or invest in some really heavy duty weather kit... (I'm very nesh btw) and if so which are the best... OHhhhhhh I'd love an indoor school...

What sort of budget?

Country supplies sell Ariat Menlo (soft shell) for £91 and you get 10% off on first order. I don't work for them - I got some of these last year and they are amazing. War, comfy and resist light rain. Size wise, they come up large.
 
I rode 4 horses out today in this hideous weather (heavy rain, winds of 26mph) and just wore my jack murphy bush coat and i stayed dry!!! The trick seems to have been in buying a long coat at least 2 sizes too big that makes me look like gandalf unless i'm sitting on a horse.... The coat was only £39 and well worth it on the strength of today!!
 
I bought some derby house all weather breeches and love them! They're windproof and water repellent. They're currently on sale too at £52.49!
 
ornella prosperis are THE best waterproof for riding, they are expensive but last for years if looked after properly. I looked at the derby house jodhs but didnt buy as they are oly water repellent not water proof. If anyone has experience of the Tally Ho waterproof jodhs id be most interested to hear about them!
 
I had some from Robinsons a couple of years ago (only cost about £12) and they were BRILLIANT! I'm afraid, last I heard, they don't do them any more. I got some from Premiere Equine last year, but never wore them as the snow plus my terrible nerves last winter prevented me going out. They were about £25, if I remember correctly. I have some waterproof over trousers from Rydale (again, only cost a few quid) which are pretty good, too.

I am afraid I am really a fair weather rider and this recent rain has prevented me going out at all some days - even with the selection of waterproof wear that I possess! Hugo doesn't really like going out in the rain either (I have a waterproof hi-viz sheet for him!)

I do hate a soggy bottom! ;)

I have the whole collection (well tested from riding 6 or 7 lots out in the irish rain!!) Ornella's come out on top by a country mile, especially the padded ones. I have the Tally Ho ones as well. They are good in warmish weather or you gotta have tights underneath them. They aren't THAT waterproof and they don't fit girls very well. If you get a pair sew a button about an inch inside the fastenings which are already on them otherwise they just don't stay up. They are comfy though but don't think I'd buy another pair.
 
I use waterproof chaos - never thought of waterproof jods, but my chaps work well, with minimal washing too which I imagine would be hard with jods!

I have fleecy Rambo ones but they do get a little warm for schooling - I'd like some non-lined ones too.
 
i had a pair of the rambo ones and they were super, and v warm also :)
i think it just depends as not every make/style will suit everyone.

the rambo ones i had were more of a full chap style rather than a waterproof trouser per se.
 
In the winter I wear Joules over trousers (don't think they make them anymore) but they are warm and waterproof. Have you considered over trousers? I wear mine all the time, for mucking out, poo picking and riding.

thanks for that Squirrel, ive not had and feedback for them before so interesting to hear. I get seriously cold out hunting so have been looking for anything to keep me warm and dry! Really need to have a look at apair but nowhere near me stocks them and dont want to order on internet if i have to send the back. I have heard they are like neoprene, is that true?
 
I just bought a pair of waterproof and breathable over trousers for about £15 and wear them with my waterproof jacket, and George has a couple of waterproof quarter sheets depending on how cold it is. I ride in most weathers and actually feel really virtuous riding in the rain :D
 
Another vote for Ornella Prosperis over breeches Had mine years and looked after them totally waterproof washed with proper detergent and re proofer, cannot recomend highly enough. I once had to wade a several steps through a swollen stream up to my waist pulled the bottoms as tight a could get them around my Aigle Riding Boots and remained totally Dry Unbelievable.:D:D
