Grrrr

I have an almost brand new Cragghopper 'waterproof' lightweight jacket and it leaks!!!!!

I will need to look at buying another for wearing to muck out, ride etc - needs to be lightweight as I find I get really hot if it is too thick......suggestions or recommendations welcomed please!

Some cycling ones are goretex waterproof and very lightweight. If you have a Decathlon near you, have a look there. Bike jackets are also often vented like riding ones as you need similar freedom of movement.

How much do you want to spend? You can get some good walking ones, but you do tend to get what you pay for, to be honest. I have a Berghaus for walking which was £100 in the sale, it's a mid-range one. It has stood up to some very wet Lake District days, but eventually I will get a bit damp round the edges.

I have a kallimor jacket from sports direct. Cost £50, has a removable fleece lining, is nice and long, foldaway hood and has so far kept me warm and dry all winter without breaking the bank.

I like the sound of this........feel a wee visit to Sports Direct coming on - they also do really cheap and colourful jods.......

Thanks all

I love sports direct-always spend too much lol! The jackets come in different colours too. My haffy has all his gear in black and purple so i have black with purple binding :-) i love their lightweight hi vis too. Much cheaper than horsey brands.

Rydale short riding mac. Costs about £20, completely waterproof and windproof, even sitting out jump-judging all day in a downpour. Only bad point is you can't wash them so you just have to sponge them down.

Rohan have a half price sale on at the moment - I havent got a Rohan waterproof but I've had a few of their technical things and they are smashing. Waterproof will me more than £20 though :(

go to a good outdoor shop - you want something that is goretex or preferably goretex xcr - this is one thing it's worth spending the money on. I used to do outdoor ed so spent a fair amount on my kit. My current jacket I bought over 10 years ago, is goretex xcr and while it has seen better days it still keeps me completely dry, the down side was it cost me £180 to buy but I bought a cheaper jacket for yard stuff and it simply doesn't keep me dry. It's one area where gear is definately you get what you pay for and cheap ones simply won't keep you dry

North Face jackets are brilliant, Ive had 2 lightweight goretex ones and they've never ever leaked. I got mine second hand off Ebay too so not very expensive, think mine were "nearly new" and cost £20 - £30, and came with a fleece inner jacket which I never wear in it, I wear it seperately.
