My Decathlon Kipwarms have served me well but today showed they won't hold up in persistent heavy rain!

I'd like to go for an over-trouser style this time, something for riding which I can also use for dog walking/general use. Not too heavy as would rather adjust layers and have the waterproof bit suitable for year round.

Any recommendations?

Not trousers but I bought waterproof full chaps from Just chaps in Dec 2019 when we had a lot of rain. Not worn them for years as my current share is on a yard where we dont ride if it is pouring with rain.
I am more comfortable riding in my Derby House warm breeches which may be slightly waterproof

For walking (not riding) I have a Rohan mac because my ancient uni friend had their men's overtrousers and recommended them.

I'm surprised your Kipwarms aren't waterproof in heavy rain, as all of my pairs have stayed dry for hours in very heavy rain. If they are under warranty I'd definitely talk to Decathalon as they might just be a faulty pair.

I also use Just Chaps riding trousers (not with the Kipwarms but with other riding tights) and really rate them.

I think they're just really old now, I've had them around 5 years and they've done the job well. I wasn't soak through but definitely damp! 😂

Stierna. They're fab, lightweight and incredibly waterproof
Dang - are they worth the extra £££? 😭

I don't mind investing, it's just there seem to be so many pricy brands out there these days and it doesn't seem to correlate much with quality!

IMO, yes they're worth it.
Although did pick mine up brand new on eBay for half cost so recommend looking there if you can be patient.

I do also use oilskin full chaps, when it's wet AND cold as they're warmer than over trousers.

I have a pair of HWH2O's they are only three quarter length but they are totally waterproof and over wellies or chaps keep me dry. As they have a bit of stretch, they are comfy to ride in. However, I picked up a Eqco riding skirt on Vinted and its transformed my winter riding! It was a bit of a gamble, wasnt sure I would like it but I love it! Was a bit worried I would get hooked up on stuff but it works really well. It drapes over my horse and he's not at all bothered by it. It keeps me totally dry, covers the saddle and when I am on my horse, comes down to my ankles. Did wonder if it would be a pain getting on and off but its not. And I enjoy wafting around in it in the yard doing jobs as it makes me feel all elegant.....🤣 I am not, I am still muddy and filthy but a least I am warm and dry! Much easier to put on than waterproof trousers and you can do a great Bucks Fizz impression when you come inside and want to take it off quickly 🤣🤣🤣. (Those of a certain age will know what I am talking about... If not, google Bucks Fizz,Eurovision song contest....)

I have Just Chaps Dri-Rider Waterproof Riding trousers. Keeping me dry and warm. I had worried about sliding in the saddle but they have a non-slip seat. Much better than ordinary waterproof trousers.
I have these and I’ll be honest I didn’t wear them the first year as I thought they looked bulky or just too much. What a waste 🤣 they are great!

I think I would prefer full trousers over chaps because I'd like to wear for non riding stuff too. I don't think I do enough riding to justify two separate pairs of waterproof trousers but fast learning living where we do now and having a dog, in winter, don't go together without good outdoor wear.
