Waterproof/Thermal Trousers

Since I injured my leg last year I have really felt the cold. Mum and Dad have offered to buy me some thermal over trousers for christmas.

As usual, there are loads to choose from. Does anyone have any recommendations or can tell me which ones to avoid.

I'm curvy (size 16/18 bottom) on only 5'5".

Of the padded overtrouser type the musto ones look good as do the Mountain Horse. I have a lovely pair of Joules ones but they stopped making them :-(.
 
The Jan 2010 edition of Horse magazine has a review of over trousers. That said, unless you're miniscule I find everything too tight. An XL in rider wear often measures as a small size 14! Ridiculous

Fuller Fillies do a good range for 'normal' sized women who ride, including the over trousers. I dont consider myself to be monstrous and wear a size 14 in jeans after having 4 kids and being middle aged. I get really cross when riding-wear items labelled an XL are way too tight and there's nothing on the rack that fits me.

i love my rohan winter bags! keep you warm down to -15!!! very comfey, quick to wash and dry. from a annual chilblains on thighs sufferer! i have tried loads of warm trousers, long johns, musto chaps etc etc. the rohan trousers are the only ones to stop the chilblains............
 
I've got Musto overtrousers, they're quilted on the inside and waterproof. Also, you could try wearing thick tights under your breeches as that really helps.
 
I have the Musto padded overtrousers which I bought in February and have been absolutely delighted with them. It took me 3 years to take the plunge and splurge on them, but I really don't begrudge the money, they are waterproof and warm so have been worth every penny. I have the Medium ones, I am a size 12/14 bottom and they are a bit loose, I think you should be OK with Large. I'm 5'6
 
Go to TK Maxx and get some ski sallopettes. If you can find snow boarding ones they have a reinforced seat too - great for riding. I live in these or Mountain Horse winter chaps at the moment.

I bought the Dublin ones last week but they are awful and really uncomfortable (walking around the bedroom was an effort) so they will be going back.
 
I've got the Harry Hall waterproof/fleecy chaps, very warm but the zips keep coming undone at the top, very annoying

Also got the shires full over trousers, a little thick but fine for yard duties or hacking

Friend has mountain horse chaps and they are ace

Both do make a massive difference to how warm I am ALL over!! so put up with the zips. Keep saying I will put something on to stop the zips coming down but never get around to it
