Has anyone had any success with a spray-on waterproofing product or similar?

I don’t rate the Nikwax wash in version you can do at home. And whenever I’ve had my rugs professionally reproofed, they seem to use Nikwax products too, and my rugs are never very waterproof afterwards.

Consequently I avoid washing my rugs, but I had to wash one in order to repair it, so I’m wondering the best way to reproof it.

Has it been washed in normal washing powder? If so, you’ll have a battle to get it waterproof again (I made this mistake once and tried everything from sprays to paint on tent re proofer and nothing worked.

If it’s been washed in product for washing waterproofs (Tech wash as an example), then I would run it through the machine with a wash in reproofer and then once dry I would use a reproofer spray too. Just had amazing success with a rep roofing spray from HG, reproofed a jacket that had lost its waterproofing over the years.

Thanks for the tips. I've ordered some Fabsil Gold from Amazon, the reviews are amazing. Knowing my luck the horse will terminally trash the rug as soon as I've got it waterproof!

My brand new lightweight didn't stand up to rain very much , i was very annoyed ! I washed it and then painted Fabsil on and I'd say it improved by at least 50%. So definitely worth doing.
